Gérard Depardieu and Fanny Ardant portray a Parisian couple in their fifties facing a mid‑life crisis. A vacation to Israel awakens Alain’s Jewish roots, and his convert wife Gisèle pushes them to relocate to Tel Aviv. In Tel Aviv, Gisèle thrives while Alain wrestles with Hebrew, tradition and a circumcision, wondering if “Shalom” means hello or goodbye.
