Hallow Road

The film opens at 2am with Maddie and Frank sleeping in their family home, which shows signs of a recent argument, such as broken glass and untouched food. The disturbance caused by a smoke alarm awakens Maddie and Frank, prompting their concern. Maddie receives a call from her daughter Alice, setting the scene for subsequent events.

Alice, after a fight with her parents, drives away in Frank's car and hits a girl who runs into the road. She calls her parents, and Maddie instructs Alice in using CPR to help the girl, revealing the traumatic aftermath of the accident. Alice's panic increases as she describes the scene, and her distress grows.

Maddie and Frank get into Maddie's car to drive to Hallow Road, where Alice is located. During the drive, they argue and reveal that Alice has been high on MDMA for hours. Frank decides to take the blame for the accident, and Alice admits she never called an ambulance after the crash.

As the family nears their destination, their anxiety intensifies. Alice confesses she has not returned to her flat and has been under the influence. Maddie shares that she recently quit her paramedic job after a tragic mistake, adding to the tense atmosphere.

Alice reports seeing another car approaching her location, prompting Frank to order her to hide the girl’s body. A woman approaches Alice in the woods, offering help but her tone becomes menacing despite Alice’s pleas for her to leave. The family becomes increasingly disturbed by her presence.

The mysterious woman talks to Alice, pretending to be helpful but gradually showing a threatening demeanor. She mentions that the girl is alive and being cared for by her husband, raising suspicion. Alice finds the girl’s body and fears the presence of the woman and her husband.

The woman smashes through the car’s quarter glass, escalating the threat. She threatens to call the authorities and claims that the girl is alive. Frank reveals he planned to take responsibility for the accident, and the woman hands the phone back to Alice, increasing the tension.

Frank and Maddie arrive at Hallow Road to find Alice missing, with a corpse in the undergrowth. Maddie attempts to call emergency services but is interrupted when Frank identifies the body as Alice. Maddie refuses to believe it and calls Alice again, who answers the phone in a kidnapping scenario.

Alice is kidnapped by the mysterious woman and her husband, who are now posing as her new parents. The kidnappers threaten to 'correct' Alice and her unborn child, depriving her and her parents of control. Maddie pleads for another chance as the line cuts off, and the couple’s car becomes blocked by police.

The next morning, police surround the scene of Alice’s body, which resembles her. Frank and Maddie stand silent nearby as detectives conclude that Alice was likely killed by a passing car, and their account of speaking to her over the phone is interpreted as a trauma response, revealing the tragic outcome.
