Despite widespread critical acclaim and being called Oscar-worthy after the Toronto Film Festival premiere, JLo was ultimately overlooked for Oscar nominations. She secured the LA Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress but the Academy did not recognize her performance, which many viewed as showcasing systemic disregard for performances by people of color.

NFL executives expressed concerns about JLo's concept featuring cages, which were intended to symbolize the challenges faced by Latino immigrants in America. Despite the pushback, JLo emphasized the importance of this visual element in conveying her message about immigrant struggles.

JLo took on the challenging role in February 2019 and learned the art of pole dancing for the film. One year after the Super Bowl, JLo performed at President Biden and Vice President Harris's inauguration in January 2021. This marked a notable moment as it occurred as Trump exited Washington, leaving behind a nation in transition. The performance represented a full-circle moment in her journey from entertainment to national events.

The NFL resisted many of JLo's creative ideas due to strict time constraints. With only about two minutes of performance time available, the league pushed back on her vision, though JLo remained determined to deliver a meaningful performance that incorporated her cultural message despite the limitations.
