Guppy

Guppy, a schoolboy and gifted artist, supports his disabled mother by breeding and selling ornamental fish. He dreams of buying her a motorized wheelchair one day. The village buzzes with news that a railway over-bridge will be built, promising jobs and change.

Thejus Varkey arrives by motorcycle from the Himalayas and is introduced to Guppy. Their first meeting ends badly when Guppy offends him while serving tea. From that moment, the two men view each other with mutual resentment.

A near accident gives Guppy and his gang a pretext to demand money from Thejus, souring their relationship further. The engineer feels humiliated while the boy relishes the idea of control. The feud begins to take a public, menacing shape.

Thejus pressures the village officer to lower or stop Guppy's payments for his fish, blaming illegal construction. Guppy responds by vandalizing Thejus's jeep, escalating the feud. The clash becomes increasingly personal and dangerous.

During a heated confrontation, Thejus slaps Guppy, who in turn injures the engineer's hand with a stone. The incident marks a turning point in their feud. The conflict now threatens the project and the community's future.

The team's tent is mysteriously burned, leaving Thejus to continue the work alone. The fire underscores sabotage and shifts the burden onto Thejus. The village begins to worry about the project and its people.

Studying the canal system, Thejus orders the demolition of Guppy's fish tanks and roadside stall, destroying his livelihood. This move is framed as enforcing illegal construction, but it devastates the boy's means of support. Guppy's world begins to fall apart.

In desperation, Guppy hires a thug to harm Thejus, and Thejus is stabbed, horrifying Guppy. The boy realizes the gravity of violence and its consequences. The incident changes everyone's view of the feud.

Guppy learns the attacker was Uppooppa, Amina's grandfather, who faced losing his job once the bridge would be built. Stricken with guilt, Uppooppa is hospitalized. The revelation shifts the blame away from Guppy and toward a tragic misdirection.

Recovering, Thejus realizes his presence has devastated Guppy and Uppooppa's families. He cancels the project, forgives Uppooppa, promises to help with Amina's education, and rebuilds Guppy's fish tanks. The village begins to heal as relationships begin to mend.

Guppy rushes to tell his mother about the changes, only to find she has died. The long-awaited motorized wheelchair is still on the way, leaving a bittersweet void in his life. He must face life without his primary caregiver.

An elderly villager named Tinku reveals Thejus's past: during the Omallur Bridge inauguration years earlier, Thejus lost his wife and young daughter Malu in an accident. Riding became his coping mechanism as he saw Malu in every child. The railway project has been his sole major work since, a reminder of his grief.

In the final sequence, Thejus rides through the Himalayas with Malu in his memories, now at peace. Guppy finds solace in having been cared for, and his mother's wish that he not be left alone is fulfilled. Both characters reach a calm resolution as the story ends.
