He used the inspection as leverage to speak privately with Clive, who revealed that Mike (not Veronica) sent the inappropriate text to Clive, and that Veronica felt responsible for Walter's suicide.

During an overnight band trip, bus driver Mike used Veronica's phone to send a sexually suggestive text to Clive. When Veronica and Clive realized Mike was the sender, they conspired to prank him rather than report him. That night, Mike confronted Veronica, triggering a painful flashback to Walter's suicide. The misunderstanding led to Veronica's arrest.

Jim was invited to speak as a guest of honour at the Armenian restaurant Wild Orchid, where he had previously investigated rabbit meat violations. His speech became an emotional outburst about Veronica's imprisonment and the life she could have had, shocking the guests. This led to a police report when he expressed wanting to retaliate against Mike, and the following day he was interrogated by police.

Jim's grief and frustration build throughout his investigation, culminating in this public breakdown.

Benjamin was a rabbit Veronica had received as a gift years earlier. After Benjamin died, Jim returned to Wild Orchid and demanded the owners cut off the rabbit's feet to keep as good-luck charms. At Jim's funeral, Veronica placed these charms in his casket, keeping one for herself and giving another to Father Greg, symbolizing a twisted form of closure and protection.
