Gotcha!

Jonathan and his roommate Manolo travel to Paris for spring break, setting the stage for romance and danger. The trip introduces Sasha into Jonathan's life and foreshadows the adventures to come.

In a Paris café, Jonathan meets Sasha Banicek and is drawn to her. Their instant chemistry leads to a night where he loses his virginity to her.

Rather than join Manolo in Spain, Jonathan accompanies Sasha to West Berlin to spend more time with her. The move pulls him into a high-stakes, Cold War setting.

In their West Berlin hotel room, Sasha explains she must go to East Berlin to pick up a package as part of her courier work. Jonathan realizes their trip will cross international borders and involve danger.

One night after arriving in East Berlin, Sasha sneaks out to meet a German man who reveals the pickup location, while Vlad, a Soviet agent, monitors from afar. The operation is clearly monitored and dangerous.

The following day Sasha tells Jonathan that if she directs him to Café Friedrichstrasse, he must leave East Berlin immediately, and she hands him a package containing a strudel. The scene cements his role in her mission.

Vlad chases Sasha, but she escapes. The German man orders her to use Jonathan to transport the package to West Berlin, tying him to the dangerous operation.

Sasha meets Jonathan at a subway station, slipping an object into his backpack and promising a reunion at the hotel. She later calls him to meet at Café Friedrichstrasse, keeping him under her control.

That night, Jonathan races to Checkpoint Charlie to cross into West Berlin, while Vlad closes in on them. Sasha is caught by East German secret police and strip-searched, but the danger continues as Jonathan crosses the border.

The chase leads to the Spandau Citadel, where Vlad's men confront Jonathan. A nearby woman asks for the object and is shot by Vlad after a mistaken exchange with the strudel. Jonathan escapes by jumping into a water canal.

Jonathan returns to Los Angeles only to face Soviet agents arriving and discovers Sasha's film canister is hidden in his backpack. He tells his parents what happened, but they doubt him.

The CIA orders Jonathan to bring them the film canister. At the Los Angeles CIA headquarters, he is shocked to find Sasha working there, revealing herself as Cheryl Brewster, a Pittsburgh CIA agent.

Jonathan arranges a meeting with Sasha at UCLA and, with Manolo's help, separates her from the CIA agents. Vlad and his men chase them through the campus, and Jonathan seizes a tranquilizer gun to incapacitate their pursuers.

Sasha and Jonathan share a kiss after escaping and discuss continuing their relationship, despite the espionage turmoil around them.

In a cruel endnote, Jonathan sees an attractive student who had previously rebuffed him and shoots her in the rear with a tranquilizer gun, underscoring the film's dark tone.
