Gori Tere Pyaar Mein

Sriram Venkat, played by Imran Khan, is a laid-back young man based in Bangalore who has just returned from the United States after pursuing his studies in architecture. He is charming but also incredibly self-absorbed, prompting his father to take matters into his own hands by arranging a marriage for him to instill some responsibility. The proposal comes from Vasudha, a traditional girl, though she is hesitant as she secretly loves a jobless social worker named Kamal.

To win over Vasudha, Sriram recounts his past romantic experiences, focusing particularly on his former love, Dia Sharma, portrayed by Kareena Kapoor. Their story begins in Delhi, where Sriram is in attendance at his girlfriend Jyoshna’s brother’s wedding. In a comical attempt to relieve traffic congestion, Dia cleverly uses Sriram’s jacket to feign pregnancy. Sriram becomes infatuated with Dia at the wedding, leading to an embarrassing confrontation with Jyoshna, who discovers his interest in Dia.

As fate would have it, six months later, Sriram encounters Dia once more at a fancy mall opening in Bangalore where she advocates for local children by challenging a corrupt minister. Impressed by her dedication, Sriram and Dia begin a fervent relationship. However, as time passes, Sriram feels trapped by Dia’s passionate commitment to social work, culminating in a significant argument where he accuses her of hypocrisy. This tension leads to a painful breakup after a year of being a couple.

As Sriram prepares to marry Vasudha, he realizes he has never truly moved on from Dia. He escapes the wedding and seeks her out in the village of Jhumli, Gujarat. There, he promises Dia that he will not leave until she agrees to come back with him. In a twist of fate, Dia challenges Sriram to build a bridge for the villagers, which she has long yearned for.

The local leader, Bhavtesh Bhai, initially resists this project due to the substantial costs involved, as he continuously exploits the villagers for personal gain. With determination, Sriram persuades a local politician, Kirti Bhai, to fund the bridge, but problems arise when Kirti Bhai is later exposed for corruption. Undeterred, Sriram resorts to selling valuable village land—an action that further angers Dia and leads to another fallout.

Despite the trials and tribulations, Sriram remains resolute in his mission. He faces physical danger when confronting Bhavtesh about halting plans for a chemical factory on the villagers’ land. It’s only when Bhavtesh’s father finally stands up to his son that the tide turns; he relinquishes his home’s deed and inspires Bhavtesh to permit the bridge’s construction.

Eventually, as the bridge nears completion, Dia learns of Sriram’s efforts and ultimately forgives him for his past mistakes. In a heartwarming reunion on the newly constructed bridge, they finally come together. The film concludes with Dia’s desire to remain in the village due to a power outage, prompting Sriram to comically flee, leaving the audience with a light-hearted ending filled with hope and laughter.
