God’s Crooked Lines

In 1979, Alice Gould de Almenara is brought into the psychiatric hospital after being left at the gates by a man. Dr. Ruipérez begins interrogating her, while she claims she was 'legally abducted' by her husband, Heliodoro, to seize her wealth. Alice starts her investigation into the hospital and its patients, suspecting foul play.

Alice meets Dr. Castell, Dr. Arellano, Ignacio Urquieta, the twins Rómulo and Remo, and the Gnome, a sexual molester protected by the Elephant Man. She begins observing their behaviors and starts conducting covert investigations. The film establishes the hospital's mysterious atmosphere and potential corruptions.

A secondary timeline unfolds during a rainy night, where a fire and riot occur in the hospital. During the chaos, a corpse is discovered in one of the cells, and Urquieta is accused by the police but later cleared of suspicion. This timeline intersects with the main storyline as events unfold behind the scenes.

Alice questions Urquieta about whether he suffers from schizophrenia, which she believes is connected to the murder of Damián, García del Olmo’s son. It becomes clear that Urquieta has an irrational fear of water, hinting at possible mental disturbances linked to his past.

While in the forest, Alice is hit by the Gnome, which leads to her waking up tied to a bed. Dr. Arellano claims she is the presumed killer of the Gnome, although Alice struggles to remember what happened after being assaulted. This marks a turning point in her suspicions.

Alice meets Director Samuel Alvar, claiming to have exchanged letters with him for her entrance into the hospital, which he denies. She attempts to expose her suspicions about the facility and her treatment, then tries to escape but is sedated during her attempt.

Alice shares her suspicions about Damián’s murder, revealing her plan to investigate by feigning mental illness. She explains that García del Olmo gave her instructions and that her internment was part of a manipulation by her husband Heliodoro, who was motivated by greed.

Alice undergoes electroshock treatment and ends up in the Cage, where she becomes convinced she is being framed by Heliodoro, who supposedly hired someone to impersonate García del Olmo. Her mental state and suspicions grow as she tries to uncover the truth.

While in her cell, Alice devises a plan to set a fire to escape, with Urquieta freeing the other patients. During the chaos, she finds Rómulo dead, which connects to the secondary timeline’s events and hints at the violence within the institution.

Alice encounters the forensic doctor, knocks her out, and impersonates her to gather information. She uncovers that Rómulo was murdered by the Elephant Man, and the hospital's secrecy intensifies as she pieces together the events leading up to her confinement.

Alice confronts the remaining twin, realizing that the dead one is Remo. The doctors convene to discharge her, with Alvar abstaining from voting. Her suspicions about the true nature of the hospital deepen as she seeks justice.

It is revealed that Donadío is actually García del Olmo, the man Alice previously identified. This shocking discovery confirms the complex conspiracy behind her internment and the hospital’s hidden motives, closing in on the truth she sought.
