A homeless veteran named Pastor is brought in as a pimp and begins taking Cameron, Nancy, and Joanne to their clients each night. One client is a police officer who knows about Mia but chooses to do nothing.

Joanne gives birth to a baby, which Mia immediately confiscates for the black market. The babies become another cruel resource in Mia's operation. The captives continue to be controlled through manipulation and fear.

Angela returns to Atlanta after an argument with Mia. Cameron persuades Chris to let her care for the baby, then secretly carries the baby downstairs to see Joanne. The concealment deepens the family’s entanglement in the abuse.

A police officer client brings Nancy to Mia, claiming she tried to escape. Cameron continues to visit Nancy, slipping in crackers and water, but Nancy warns her not to. The situation grows increasingly dangerous for all involved.

Nancy dies from heatstroke while imprisoned. Mia and Pastor decide that they must return to Atlanta, ending the Nashville chapter of their operation. The losses underscore the brutality of the scheme.

At Angela's latest house, the basement becomes overcrowded. The landlord investigates after smell complaints, breaks in, and discovers Harlan and Joanne. He calls the police, leading to the arrest of Mia, Chris, Angela, and Pastor.

Cameron is freed during the arrest and is finally reunited with her mother Patricia. The family begins a difficult healing process after years of trauma and abuse.

Five years later, Mia is up for parole. Cameron testifies that Mia's claim of strengthening the family is evil and not true. The parole board denies parole, and Mia is sent back to prison, with a postscript noting that others received lengthy sentences and the city settled with those they failed to help.
