The whole story of Hider in the House (1989) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Tom Sykes, a recently released psychiatric patient, finds refuge in the attic of the Dreyer family's new home. Through discreet electronic surveillance, he begins watching their daily life, gradually escalating from voyeurism to lethal violence when the family dog Rudolph intervenes to protect them.

His fixation narrows onto Julie Dreyer, the mother of the household. He intrudes into her world by constantly watching her and sabotaging her relationship with her husband, Phil Dreyer. He also manipulates the Dreyers' son, Neal, teaching him fighting techniques and bending him to his own warped plan.

As tensions rise, Phil leaves, providing Tom an opening to insert himself further into the family's life. Despite initial success, suspicions arise, especially from the neighbor Gene. Tom resorts to violence to maintain his façade, murdering those who uncover his secrets.

Julie eventually sees through his deception and rejects him, leading to a violent confrontation where Phil is severely injured.

Julie manages to defend herself and Phil, ultimately shooting Tom when he attempts to kill them. The police, summoned by the authorities, arrive in time to save Julie, though Tom briefly survives, only to meet his end at the hands of law enforcement. Phil is rushed to the hospital, while Tom's body is taken to the morgue, bringing an end to the harrowing ordeal.
