Gayab

Vishnu Prasad is an unappreciated nerd whose mother nags him and whose father ignores him. He is in love with his neighbour Mohini, who already has a boyfriend, Sameer. After seeing Mohini in a cafe with Sameer, Vishnu accidentally winks at her; Sameer hits him, and Vishnu bursts into tears.

Feeling defeated, he visits the beach and prays to a statue to erase him from the world. His plea apparently comes true, and when he returns home he discovers that he has become invisible. The boon immediately changes how he experiences life, giving him a chance to observe Mohini without being seen.

After realizing he is invisible, Vishnu learns that he cannot wear any clothes other than those he wore on the day of the boon, or his body will be exposed. He quickly finds his white shirt, which is invisible with him, and wears it to stay hidden. He uses his invisibility to spy on Mohini and to get Sameer into trouble.

He decides to share his secret with his father to calm his worries. He also experiments with an invisible ghost persona to teach his mother a lesson; his mother becomes frightened, thinking the ghost is her late father-in-law and faints.

To win Mohini and gain money, Vishnu robs a bank, taking cash while invisible. Mohini is shocked and terrified when she learns the truth about his actions. The sensational act marks a turning point in how others view him.

Mohini confronts Vishnu and makes it clear that she is in love with Sameer and wants nothing to do with him. She asks him to back off and leave her life.

Alone and drunk, Vishnu wanders the streets. The media spins incredible stories about an invisible force, and the police declare a hunt for the 'invisible man'. Sameer and Mohini go into hiding and try to leave town, but they cannot escape.

Vishnu threatens to wreak havoc on the city to demand Mohini's capture, and the police close in on him. Mohini agrees to help the law by drawing Vishnu into a trap, leading him to an abandoned building. The police surround the building to capture him.

In a tense moment, Vishnu tells Mohini that he has always loved her and that love should not control her life. Moved by his honesty, Mohini decides to save him and tells him to run as the cops close in.

Vishnu escapes by running and diving into a river; the police shoot, and his clothes surface while his body remains missing. The city is left to wonder whether he is dead.

Several days later, Mohini and Sameer find Vishnu alive on the riverbank, naked after his swim. He apologizes for his actions and vows to lead a normal life.

Vishnu is arrested and spends a short time in jail before being released. The experience leaves him reflective as he contemplates the consequences of his actions and chooses to reform. He begins to rebuild his life with a new sense of responsibility.

Months later, the nation recognizes Vishnu as a hero for helping the police solve cases, even as he continues living an invisible but ordinary life. He balances public recognition with anonymity and remains dedicated to doing good. The story closes with him embracing a normal life while still being the man people look up to.
