During the Beiyang period, Beiping is a city thick with shadows, spies, and shifting loyalties. A young martial artist Li Tianran [Eddie Peng Yu-Yan], witnesses a brutal massacre led by his senior disciple Zhu Qianlong [Liao Fan] in collusion with the Japanese spy Nemoto Ichiro [Kenya Sawada], a crime that destroys their master’s family. Li narrowly escapes and is saved by an American doctor named Hendler [Andy Friend]. After his wounds heal, he is sent to the United States to study medicine for years, all the while secretly receiving espionage training that will shape his fate. When the orders come in early 1937, Li must return to China, stepping back into a world that is already tipping toward war.
On the eve of the Marco Polo Bridge incident, Beiping becomes a labyrinth of intrigue where Chinese and foreign agents mingle, betrayals linger, and every corner hums with danger. Li, driven by a burning need for revenge, finds himself unwittingly pulled into a grand conspiracy that surpasses a single vendetta. Lan Qingfeng [Jiang Wen], a mysterious martial artist from the former dynasty, is deeply connected to Zhu Qianlong [Liao Fan] and Nemoto Ichiro [Kenya Sawada], and he shares a complicated, almost brotherly bond with Hendler [Andy Friend]. The line between ally and adversary blurs as old loyalties are tested and new ambitions rise to the surface.
As tensions between China and Japan escalate and the power plays intensify, Li grows wary of the lies that have clouded crucial moments and the opportunities that slipped away. He steels himself to strike back in a full-scale revenge mission, enlisting the assistance of tailor Guan Qiaohong [Zhou Yun]. Together they peel back the layers of deception surrounding the massacre, exposing the hidden truths and the tangled secrets of everyone involved, reshaping the destiny of those entangled in the dangerous game they find themselves in.
