The story unfolds with Nick's mother, Marcia Gay Harden, giving a heartfelt toast to her son during a large family gathering. She presents him with a sentimental gift inscribed with the words, "To Nick, from Mom, make me proud." However, this poignant moment is shadowed by Nick's carefree nature as he casually tears the center out of a chocolate cake and heads to the garage with it in hand.
