Garfield’s Thanksgiving

Garfield checks the calendar and discovers he has a vet appointment that day. He tries to erase the date to make Jon forget, but then realizes tomorrow is Thanksgiving and urgently insists that Jon buy the dinner ingredients. The clash between a routine checkup and a holiday feast sets the chaotic tone for the day.

Jon agrees to take Garfield to the vet, and they drive there on the way home from the supermarket. Garfield panics at the thought of the visit, hoping to avoid it. The car trip foreshadows the arrival of Liz and the mess to come.

Dr. Liz Wilson examines Garfield and finds him healthy enough for a diet, citing weight concerns. Garfield resists the idea of dieting, while Jon tries to wheedle Liz into dating him. After both Garfield and Jon faint, Liz agrees to go out with Jon.

On the way out of the clinic, Jon extends an invitation for Thanksgiving at his house, and Liz accepts. Garfield seems relieved at the plan, even as the holiday chaos looms. The date sets up the inevitable dinner situation.

Back home, Jon awaits Liz's arrival while Garfield endures the diet. He eats half a lettuce leaf for lunch and tries to raid the refrigerator, only to be blocked by Odie. Odie is assigned to guard Garfield's food, creating comic tension.

Garfield weighs himself on a talking weight scale and destroys it after it mocks him by comparing him to Orson Welles. Odie foils multiple attempts to steal cookies, flour, salt, and sugar. Garfield worries the lack of food might be making him hallucinate.

Early the next morning, Garfield wakes up grumpier as Jon begins cooking. Jon forgets to thaw the turkey and tries to compensate by cranking the oven temperature, neglecting proper steps. He even jokes by shaving and rubbing butter on his own skin as the kitchen descends into chaos.

Liz arrives and notices Jon isn't wearing pants, creating a humorous moment. She spends time with Garfield and lists some symptoms of excess dieting, some genuine and some exaggerated. Garfield is delighted when she shares a kiss with him.

With the turkey still frozen, Grandma arrives to take over the kitchen. She demonstrates unconventional cooking methods, cutting the turkey into slices with a chainsaw, coating them in white sauce, and deep-frying the slices into croquettes. She also prepares sides like buttered potatoes with brown sugar and marshmallows, plus canned cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

Grandma finishes her cooking and leaves, telling Garfield that Liz couldn't have found a better man than Jon. She urges Garfield to enjoy a piece of pie as she departs.

Garfield announces that everything is ready and they move into the dining room to eat. Liz declares the meal wonderful, agrees to return next year, and thanks Jon with a kiss on the cheek.

After the feast, the group goes for a walk to burn off the calories, but Odie is too bloated to move. Jon puts Odie on a diet, and Garfield becomes a drill sergeant, forcing Odie through push-ups as payback for yesterday.
