Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris

Three years have passed since Gamera defeated Legion. Hyper Gyaos have evolved into a renewed threat, forcing Japan to mobilize again. Mayumi Nagamine, a noted ornithologist, returns to assist the government in confronting the menace.

At the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, researchers uncover a graveyard of Gamera fossils. The discovery hints at Gamera's long history and the power behind his return. The find intensifies the sense of urgency in the government's response to the Hyper Gyaos outbreak.

Shadowy government operatives Mito Asakura and Kurata Shinya work behind the scenes with a hidden agenda. Asakura believes Gamera is an evil spirit rather than a guardian, shaping her actions and alliances. Their clandestine plans foreshadow a deeper conspiracy surrounding Iris and the new threat.

In Shibuya, a pair of Hyper Gyaos appear and clash with Gamera. The battle costs thousands of lives as Gamera fights with devastating force. In response, the Japanese government orders Gamera's immediate destruction to prevent further casualties.

Ayana Hirasaka, a teenage schoolgirl, discovers a mysterious stone egg sealed within the temple of Asuka. The discovery sets her on a path of vengeance against Gamera. The egg’s seal hints at dangerous powers about to surface.

The egg hatches into a tentacled mutant named Iris. Iris forms a psychic link with Ayana through an orichalcum amulet, turning Ayana's grief into a shared obsession. Iris becomes the focal point of Ayana's quest for revenge against Gamera.

Iris matures into his adult form and massacres half of Asuka's population. Ayana's classmate Tatsunari Moribe manages to free her from Iris's cocoon with a sacred dagger. The town reels from the massacre as Iris's threat expands beyond the temple.

The JGSDF launches an effort to destroy Iris but fails. Iris heads toward Kyoto, where Ayana has been taken by Asakura and Kurata, who intend to use her to summon Iris. The conspiracy deepens as Ayana becomes a pawn in the monster's rise.

On the way to Kyoto, Iris attacks two JASDF pilots mid-flight but is intercepted by Gamera. A tactical missile strike forces them to descend, allowing Iris to escape while Gamera gives chase. The chase solidifies the uneasy alliance between human protection and the monster's power.

At Kyoto Station, Nagamine and Asagi Kusanagi attempt to retrieve Ayana, but a typhoon complicates their efforts. Kurata speculates that Gamera is humanity's guardian and a vessel for mana, while Iris seems designed to defeat him. The scene blends religious and scientific ideas as the war tightens.

Iris arrives at Kyoto Station and engages Gamera in a climactic battle. Iris impales Gamera and destroys the station, killing Asakura and Kurata in the debris. The city’s fate hangs in the balance as the guardian and the creature clash.

Moribe distracts Iris with the sacred dagger, freeing Ayana from Iris's control. Inside Iris, Ayana experiences his memories and realizes how hatred fueled the monster's growth. Gamera plunges his hand into Iris's chest and wrenches Ayana free, ending the human merge.

Asagi rescues Nagamine from debris as Iris impales Gamera's hand and begins to process his DNA. In a desperate gambit, Gamera blasts off his injured arm and absorbs Iris's fireballs, forming a fiery plasma fist. He drives the plasma fist into Iris, causing the monster to explode.

Ayana lies comatose, but Gamera's roar stirs a glimmer of hope. Nagamine and Asagi support Ayana as a swarm of Hyper Gyaos descends on Japan. Military leaders pledge to fight the swarm alongside Gamera, who stands defiantly in Kyoto as the battle looms.
