Miss Flora Spider Brooke Shields has been living happily with her new husband Holley Rick Moranis, but grows anxious when she lays five eggs. Her fear of motherhood stems from the memory of her own mother abandoning her before she hatched, though her adoptive mother Betty Beetle offers calm reassurance that she will be a loving parent. When the five eggs hatch, the spiderlings bring a wave of joy to the family, and the house fills with new life and laughter.
Years pass, and as the spiderlings grow, the family discovers a giant egg and decorates it. Believing its mother is searching for it, Squirt Scott Beaudin sets out to return the egg. In the forest, he encounters three orphans: Dragon Mitchell Eisner the dragonfly, Shimmer Rebecca Brenner the jewel beetle, and Bounce Julie Lemieux the bedbug — bandits who live among the trees. They are all orphans, and Dragon notes that they are still looking for parents, but they decide to join Squirt on his quest.
Suddenly, Spiderus Reeves Tony Jay, a short-tempered white spider who grew jealous after Miss Flora chose Holley over him, appears with intent to devour Dragon. The children manage to drive him away. Back home, Miss Spider discovers Squirt is missing and fears the worst, prompting Miss Flora and Holley to organize a rescue mission. With Spiderus now agreeing to help, they set out together to find Squirt.
As snow begins to fall, the group encounters Stinky the stinkbug in his home and takes shelter there until morning. During this escape, Spiderus unexpectedly falls in love with Spindella. The companions eventually reach a barn where a chicken, the mother of the egg, attacks Squirt, but Miss Spider and Holley intervene to save him.
After the egg hatches, it is reunited with its chicken mother. Squirt introduces his new friends to Miss Spider, and she decides to adopt them, feeling a kinship with orphans and noting that eight children form a balanced, happy family. The group returns home, their hearts full, and the children drift into sleep as Miss Spider reflects that family isn’t about appearances, but about caring for each other.
Later, Squirt is thought missing again, but he reappears outside, spinning a web to fly. The rest of the family wakes and rushes outside to celebrate his return, and they all join in a moment of play and togetherness as night settles in.
