Flight of the Living Dead

Siblings Barbra and Johnny drive to a rural Pennsylvania cemetery to visit their father's grave. A pale man in a tattered suit emerges and attacks Johnny, killing him, and then turns on Barbra. Barbra flees for safety and heads toward a nearby farmhouse.

Barbra enters the farmhouse seeking shelter after the attack and finds the resident's half-eaten corpse lying on the stairs. The house seems deserted except for this ominous discovery. She braces for danger as the night deepens.

A stranger named Ben arrives at the farmhouse and initially mistakes Barbra for the homeowner. He prepares to defend the house with improvised measures and help bar the doors and windows. The two form a tenuous alliance to hold off the growing threat.

Barbra learns that a group of survivors is already taking shelter in the home's cellar: Harry, his wife Helen, and their daughter Karen. They are joined by Tom and Judy after hearing an emergency broadcast. The cellar becomes a temporary refuge as the night presses on.

The survivors listen to radio and television reports about an army of cannibalistic corpses sweeping the East Coast. Scientists theorize that radiation from a space probe may have reanimated the dead. The scale of the threat becomes clear, deepening the sense of peril.

Ben devises a plan to obtain medical supplies for Karen and move the group to a rescue center. He intends to refuel his truck at a pump on the farm and use it to transport the group to safety. The plan is risky, but it offers a potential exit from the encroaching siege.

Ben, Tom, and Judy drive to the pump, holding off the advancing ghouls with torches and Molotov cocktails. A spill of gasoline ignites, the truck explodes, and Tom and Judy are killed. Ben returns to the house, wounded and furious at the loss.

Inside the farmhouse, Harry disarms Ben but is then shot by him. Harry staggers down to the cellar and dies there, leaving his daughter Karen crying in the gloom. The moment marks a turning point as trust dissolves amid the chaos.

Karen dies from her injuries, then reanimates as a ghoul and feasts on her father's remains. In a vicious turn, she attacks and stabs her mother Helen to death with a masonry trowel. The family within the farmhouse is torn apart from within as the threat grows.

Barbra attempts to help Ben hold the ghouls at bay, but her brother Johnny reanimates and drags Barbra away as the horde breaks into the house. The primal fear of losing Barbra to the undead is realized as the siege tightens.

Ben takes refuge in the cellar and fights off the oncoming ghouls, shooting those that press into the shelter. The claustrophobic defense shows his resolve as the rest of the group cowers above.

An armed posse arrives to dispatch the remaining ghouls after the noise of gunfire and sirens wakes the town. Ben emerges from the cellar but is mistaken for a ghoul by the uniformed group and is shot; his body is later burned with the rest of the corpses on a bonfire.
