Set in early‑1900s England, orphaned Christina is taken in by her Uncle Russell at the Flambards estate, where his two sons—Mark, a reckless hunter, and William, an aspiring aviator—live. As she adapts to country life, she confronts class divisions and falls for one of her cousins. After a hasty marriage, the outbreak of World I sends her husband to the front, leaving Christina to manage and preserve Flambards on her own.
