A flashback reveals young Harry in 1972, inspired by the legendary actor Steve McQueen. He resides next to a renovated theater in Pennsylvania, contemplating his future and the choices that lie ahead.

In 1972, Harry partners with Enzo Rotella to plan an audacious heist targeting a California bank suspected of housing a secret fund for former President Richard Nixon. The crew is comprised of several accomplices, including Harry's brother, Tommy Barber.

The gang arrives in California and rents a vacation home conveniently close to their target bank. While settling in, Harry meets Molly, a widow struggling with her recent loss, and a romantic connection begins to form.

As their romance develops under the enchanting California nights, Harry keeps his true motives hidden from Molly. The bond they share grows deeper, but Harry's conflicting emotions create a tension he cannot shake off.

During one pivotal night, the gang successfully disables the alarm system and breaks into the bank's vault using dynamite. Over three frantic nights, they steal approximately $9 million, a decision that will have devastating consequences.

Following the heist, the gang fractures, with Harry receiving a mere $10,000 from the stolen fortune. As the others return to their lives, Harry is left grappling with the guilt and aftermath of their reckless choices.

As the dust settles, FBI agents Howard Lambert and Sharon Price begin an investigation into the bank robbery. The agents uncover critical evidence linking the crime scene to the vacation home where Harry and his crew stayed, slowly connecting the dots.

One by one, the members of the gang are arrested as the FBI closes in on their investigation. Carelessly left fingerprints become crucial evidence in identifying Harry's crew, but he manages to evade capture and disappears.

Fast-forward to 1980, Harry decides to confront his past and prepare for his reckoning. He shares his decision with Molly, revealing that he has contacted her father, the sheriff, to arrange for his own arrest.

As Harry and Molly leave the diner after his confession, law enforcement, led by FBI agent Lambert, closes in to apprehend him. With a heavy heart, he takes one last look at Molly before being taken away.

In the epilogue, it is revealed that Harry received a seven-year prison sentence for his involvement in the heist. However, due to a heartfelt letter from the townspeople supporting his character, his sentence was reduced to three years.
