In present-day New York City, Shawn MacArthur, a street vendor, faces trouble when a group of thugs, working for ticket scalper Harvey Boarden, confronts him. Despite his best efforts to fight them off, Shawn loses both his money and counterfeit products, marking a rough start to his day.

After losing his cash, Shawn spots Harvey and the gang at a nearby cafe and decides to confront them. This bold move results in Shawn successfully reclaiming his money, which impresses Harvey enough to propose a high-stakes fight, setting the stage for Shawn's entry into the underground fighting scene.

Shawn's first fight takes place at a Brooklyn church against a formidable Russian fighter. In a surprising turn of events, Shawn manages to defeat his opponent by knocking him into a water fountain, earning recognition and respect for his fighting skills.

During a celebration at a club, Shawn and Zulay grow closer, eventually leading to their first sexual encounter. As they become intimate, Zulay asks about Shawn's family, prompting him to share his painful childhood filled with rivalry and favoritism from his father toward Evan.
