André Fragman, called “Fairbanks” after his father’s favorite silent‑film star, returns from military duty to a stagnant life. He quickly falls for Marie, an aspiring actress rehearsing a production of ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ Despite frantic attempts, he can’t secure employment or escape his circumstances; his friends Étienne and Jean‑Pierre are powerless to help. Overwhelmed by frustration and longing, the hopeful dreamer spirals toward madness.
