Ranjan became the Dybbuk's target because he was mentally vulnerable, an orphan dealing with deep-rooted trauma from his childhood. The Dybbuk exploited his psychological fragility and his profession working with dangerous nuclear waste, attempting to use him as a vessel to destroy the city. This made him a more suitable host than Priya, whose primary vulnerability was her pregnancy.

Earlier scenes showed Ranjan's emotional struggle with his past, establishing his susceptibility to possession.

After Ezra was left brain-dead during a violent confrontation with villagers, his father Yakoob Ezra refused to accept his son's death. Using black magic, Yakoob forcibly trapped Ezra's soul inside the box, sealing it with Hebrew inscriptions. He buried a wooden mannequin in Ezra's grave and dumped Ezra's body at sea, creating the illusion of burial while the soul remained imprisoned.

Yakoob's refusal to bless the union and his desperate nature foreshadowed his willingness to resort to dark supernatural means.

Rabbi Benyamin died because Dybbuk spirits target anyone who attempts to help their victims or tries to perform an exorcism. The Rabbi warned Ranjan about the dangers of confronting a Dybbuk and explained that anyone who tries to exorcise it becomes the object of its revenge. His death served as a grim warning of the entity's retaliatory power.

The box had been buried in Thiru-Kochi after Yakoob sealed Ezra's soul inside, but over decades it was looted from the house of the last Malabar Jew in Cochin by an antique seller. It eventually surfaced in a shop where Priya purchased it, bringing the cursed artifact into her and Ranjan's home.

The opening scene showed the antique seller looting the Jewish house, setting the chain of events in motion.

The mid-credits scene shows two young men discovering the Dybbuk box along the seashore and planning to open it, suggesting the curse is far from over. The box was thrown into the ocean but returned to shore, implying the cyclical nature of the curse, it will continue to find new victims who curiosity leads them to open it.

Marques, following his father's knowledge and the book provided by Joshua Yehudi, performed Jewish exorcism rituals specifically designed for Dybbuk boxes. The ritual expelled the Dybbuk from Ranjan's body and forced it back into the container. Together with ACP Shafeer, they sealed the box and drowned it in the ocean, repeating the original method used to dispose of Ezra's body.

The book about Abraham Ezra's story contained the ritual knowledge needed for the exorcism.

The Hebrew inscription on the box read "Abraham Ezra," revealing the identity of the trapped soul.
