Gabriella Murge, alias Gaby Doriot Isa Miranda is introduced as a famous film star and a captivating adventuress whose charm pulls men toward trouble and, too often, toward ruin. At the party, Roberto falls in love with her, and so does the world around them, even as Roberto’s mother Alma Nanni [Tatyana Pavlova] initially guards against Gaby’s reputation, then slowly warms to her presence.

Gaby travels to the Nanni household to care for Alma, while Roberto embarks on a trip to Rome; in the background, Leonardo Nanni’s affections for Gaby deepen, setting the stage for a complicated triangle of desire, loyalty, and social pressure. One night, Alma, having put music on to go to bed, calls out for Gaby; when she does not hear a response, Alma’s fear escalates, and she dies after a fall in her wheelchair, shattering the family’s stability and forcing a reckoning about love, duty, and deception.

After Alma’s death, Leonardo and Gaby embark on what seems like an endless journey across Europe, wandering as advisers urge a prompt return to business. Upon their long return, Gaby is haunted by the memory of the house and begins to unravel emotionally, while Leonardo’s world crumbles under the weight of consequences and rumors. Gaby eventually leaves Leonardo, telling him that he should stay with his wife—even if she is gone—before a new turn of fate arrives.

Meanwhile, Leonardo’s business fortunes suffer a blow as he is charged with embezzlement and sentenced to four years in prison. In the midst of these upheavals, Gaby’s star continues to rise, and she becomes a monumental presence in cinema, a public icon whose fame contrasts sharply with the private loneliness she preserves. When Leonardo is released and moves through the theater foyer, he is shocked by the many images of Gaby and is expelled for not appearing in proper evening attire, a moment that underscores the gap between appearance and reality in the world he once believed he could navigate.

Outside the theater, tragedy follows, and Leonardo is struck by a passing car, a cruel accident that punctuates the precariousness of his position and the fragility of the lives entwined with Gaby’s ascent. To shield her from scandal, Gaby’s managers and entourage summon Roberto to clear her name, and in the process, she comes to a painful realization: she has loved Roberto all along. The plot then reveals a further, sharp twist: Roberto has married her sister Anna [Nelly Corradi], whom he encounters at the auction of his father’s house, a connection that compounds Gaby’s isolation and longing.

Faced with this cascade of betrayals and heartbreak, Gaby makes a final, devastating choice and takes her own life, leaving behind a note that speaks to the loneliness that persisted despite her public triumphs. As the anesthetic mask is removed and the doctors confirm her death, the film aches to a close with a stark sense of finality—the printing presses halt, and the poster of Gaby’s image ceases to roll across the screens, marking the end of an era and the uneasy truth that stardom cannot fully redeem a life shadowed by isolation and unattainable love.
