Former RAF squadron leader Matt Denant [Rex Harrison] travels to Hendley, England to visit an airfield run by his friend Titch. At the airfield, Rodgers [Cyril Cusack], an employee, asks Matt to place a large wager on a horse. Matt agrees, but when the horse loses, Rodgers promises to repay him.

While Matt is strolling through Hyde Park, a woman strikes up a conversation, and detective Penter [Michael Golden] charges her with unlawful soliciting. Matt steps in to help, but the clash between the two men leaves Penter mortally wounded, after his head is struck on a park bench.

Matt is arrested; following Penter’s death, he is sentenced to three years in prison. Believing the punishment unjust, Matt escapes. Inspector Harris [William Hartnell] of Scotland Yard is assigned to track him down, while Matt finds refuge in the home of Sir James Winton, where Dora Winton [Peggy Cummins] helps him hide.

Titch provides an aeroplane to Matt, enabling him to flee to France, but Rodgers betrays him after a police reward is offered. Matt’s plane is overtaken by a heavy fog and crashes. He survives and seeks shelter at a nearby farm. Dora eventually locates him, professes her love, and persuades Matt that the right course is to surrender to the law.
