Edge of Innocence

Kang Qiao is injured in a motorcycle crash and rushed to the hospital, beginning his slow recovery. His close friends Zhu Li and Zhao Yi visit to lift his spirits and keep him company. The accident sets off a chain of events that pulls him deeper into a dangerous neighborly mystery.

While recovering, he notices a striking young woman outside the hospital window and becomes drawn to her. He watches her from a distance and imagines a connection, even as others urge him to focus on healing.

One night he witnesses the mysterious woman stabbing an old man, likely her father. She and her mother haul the body into an abandoned area near the hospital. Terrified and enthralled, he chooses to stay silent to protect his crush.

Soon afterward, Kang Qiao receives a threatening message advising him not to investigate. He senses that someone is watching him and fears for the woman's safety.

To learn more, he follows Xia Yingying and even trespasses into her house in search of evidence about a spy. He narrowly refrains from confrontation when he finds her in the shower. The episode deepens his resolve to uncover the truth.

The next day he gets a cryptic phone call from an unknown number warning him again to back off. He confirms her name, learns she works at a large company, and realises there is more to her than he suspected. The mystery around her thickens.

To approach her, Kang Qiao becomes her client and they go out for dinner. He accidentally reveals that he knows where she lives, which makes her more cautious but intrigued.

They spend a day together and Yingying warns him that her family is strict. Despite the tension, their bond grows and she admits her feelings for him.

A group of men sent by Yingying's mother find Kang Qiao and beat him, trying to force him to reveal Yingying's whereabouts. He endures the assault and refuses to talk.

Back at the hospital, he discovers that the supposed burial site for Yingying's father has been dug up. He rushes through the hospital to find Yingying and unravel the danger closing in.

Zhu Li reveals her obsession and attempts to poison Yingying with water. She confesses that she installed a camera in Kang Qiao's hospital room and that Zhao Yi helped her. The police soon arrive and arrest Zhu Li.

Zhu Li is arrested; Yingying is taken away by her mother. Kang Qiao chases after them on his motorcycle, determined to stay close and protect her.

Kang Qiao confronts Yingying and she finally explains the truth: her 'father' was actually her husband, whom she married to repay her mother's debts. Their child died, and she buried the infant's supplies in the abandoned area, which Kang Qiao had witnessed. He learns that her family kept a painful secret for years.

Ten years pass. Yingying is determined to leave her husband, but hesitates because he is embroiled in business troubles and cancer. She stays by his side through chemotherapy and lawsuits, sharing the burden and caring for him. When he dies, she starts to rebuild her life.

After the long separation of a decade, Yingying reunites with Kang Qiao. They decide to spend another summer together, hinting at a possible new chapter for them.
