Shivalinga a.k.a. Shivu, an ordinary laborer in a stone quarry, is stirred by news that his mother is gravely ill. He rushes her to Bangalore for treatment, but the worst happens: she passes away. With no money to spare for a funeral, he parts with the only valuable keepsake he has, hoping to give her a proper farewell. Yet even a tombstone remains out of reach, and the weight of loss drives him to walk away from the city, penniless and emotionally shattered.
On the road, he encounters Poornima, a young woman who has been kidnapped and menaced by her abductors. He intervenes just in time, saving her from harm and delivering her to the orphanage where she stays. The warden of the institution misreads the situation, assuming Poornima has run away with her rescuer, and wrongly believes there is a romantic connection between them. In a swift and harsh reprimand, the warden orders Poornima to leave the shelter she once relied on.
Driven by a desire to honor Poornima’s wish to continue her education, Shivu resolves to support her studies. Yet the world outside offers little besides his raw strength; he soon finds himself dragged into the underworld, where survival requires more than brawn. As he navigates these perilous circles, a troubling truth emerges: his growing attachment to Poornima draws the attention of mob figures who see her as collateral in their power games. The conflict escalates, and the kingpin is killed in the escalating struggle.
The violence catches the attention of the police, who wrongly suspect Shivu of involvement in the murders and other crimes. Caught between a hostile society, aggressive law enforcement, and ruthless criminals, he faces mounting persecution and isolation. Poornima, moved by his suffering and determined to protect him, arranges a final meeting outside the city, seeking a chance to escape the pressures tearing them apart.
In a heartbreaking turn, Poornima administers sweets laced with poison to Shivu and consumes the same poison herself, a desperate end to a chapter clouded by misfortune, betrayal, and unyielding hardship. The tragedy leaves them ensnared in a world where good intentions collide with brutal reality, and where loyalty and love are tested to their breaking point.
