Shortly after these dreams begin, Rebecca goes missing during an outdoor school play and is later found dead at the bottom of a reservoir. The shock shatters Claire’s sense of reality, and she clings to the belief that the dreams may be premonitions or traces of a long-buried truth. As she grows more convinced that she is witnessing the movements of a killer, she identifies the man behind the crimes as Vivian Thompson, a figure she has seen in her visions for years. The underwater city she keeps dreaming about, she discovers, is not imaginary at all, but the remains of a former town called Northfield that was flooded when the reservoir was created.

Driven by a mix of desperation and maternal resolve, Claire tries to insert herself into the police investigation, only to meet increasing resistance from investigators who doubt her perceptions. The more she envisions Vivian moving through the lives of other girls, the more unhinged she feels, yet the more clear and vivid the connections become. Even behind the sterile walls, the visions persist: she sees Vivian murdering Paul, a catastrophe she cannot avert, a looming threat that refuses to stay buried.

When a renewed surge of visions culminates in a chance to rescue another girl, Claire escapes the hospital and steals a guard’s vehicle, determined to pursue Vivian to a remote location along the lake. Her search leads her to an abandoned fruit factory where the water laps at the margins of the building, a setting that feels almost like a sealed memory waiting to be unlocked. Inside, she comes face to face with Vivian and the young girl, Ruby, Krystal Benn, whom Vivian has abducted to form his warped “family.” Vivian’s fearsome charm masks a deep-seated cruelty, and he attempts to keep Claire and Ruby with him as his new companions, a perverse idea of kinship born of abuse.

The police close in, tracking Claire to the factory as a tense confrontation unfolds. A SWAT helicopter hovers above, attempting to snipe Vivian from the air, while Vivian pursues Claire along a narrow bridge that spans a treacherous tributary and a rushing waterfall. In a brutal struggle, both Claire and Vivian are knocked over the guardrail and fall into the churning water.
