Day of the Dead 2: Contagium

In 1968, an infected Soviet man, Rubinsky, is operated on inside a military hospital. Soldiers storm the building and begin shooting everyone in sight. A hospital student steals a vial and hides it in a thermos; as he flees into the woods, he is shot and the thermos is dropped. Explosives detonated by sharpshooters outside the hospital later wipe out the remaining zombies.

The thermos containing the vial is dropped in the woods during the escape and remains hidden among the trees. The soldier who shot the student dies in the confrontation; the vial is never recovered at that time. The event seeds the later outbreak that will echo through the years.

Boris, Jackie, Isaac, Sam, and their doctor Donwynn uncover a strange thermos buried in the hospital yard. They are all patients at the same hospital, drawn by curiosity about the mysterious container. Donwynn warns the others about following rules around the object.

Sam attempts to open the rusted thermos but can't; Donwynn entrusts Sam with keeping it safe; Isaac expresses fear that something terrible will happen if the thermos is opened.

Jackie steals the thermos and runs to the hospital bathroom to attempt opening it. The others try to intervene, debating whether the risk is worth taking and what the consequences might be.

Jackie opens the thermos and a strange object falls out, unknowingly releasing a deadly virus that infects the entire group. The immediate aftermath is chaos as signs of infection begin to appear among those present.

The next day, Sam experiences a seizure; others show signs of illness with skin peeling and other decay. Emma discovers she is pregnant, and she bites Marshall, igniting a wider spread of the infection. Dr. Heller imposes a full quarantine and authorizes armed response to Dorm 1, with strict rules against attacking staff.

Donwynn receives a video from a friend warning not to open the thermos because the virus mutates human DNA. He informs Sam that he plans to visit the hospital the next day to investigate the item himself.

Marshall dies from the infection that night and later reanimates, attacking the hospital staff and violence escalating as chaos erupts around him. The hospital’s security and medical staff struggle to contain the outbreak amidst mounting danger.

Donwynn's friend arrives at the hospital as Donwynn returns and explains the true nature of the virus, its contagiousness, and how those infected are effectively dead by human standards. He reveals how the virus was first released and why the patients must confront their fate.

Boris mutates into a zombie and bites Donwynn's friend, prompting Jackie and Sam to attack the mutated Boris; they devour him along with the friend while Isaac, Donwynn, and Emma flee to the doctor's office outside the dorm. Tensions rise as the hospital slides into full-blown horror.

Dr. Heller reanimates as a zombie, and the surviving patients witness others in the dining room reanimating and tearing through police. The survivors retreat to the medical room and Emma goes into labor as the last officer is killed. Boris, Jackie, and Sam urge Isaac and Emma to turn and join them as a family, while the city is overrun and the final scene shows zombies attacking a camera crew recording the carnage.
