Damini

Shekhar Gupta is introduced as the elder son of wealthy industrialist Kedarnath Gupta, with the family living a privileged life. Damini, from a poorer background, catches Shekhar's attention after a dance performance at a charity event. Damini's strong sense of justice and vocal opposition to social injustices are highlighted early on.

Shekhar falls in love at first sight with Damini, and they decide to marry. Damini moves into Shekhar's luxurious bungalow, symbolizing her entry into the affluent Gupta family. Her presence introduces a contrast between her social background and the family's wealth.

Tolu Bajaj, a business partner of the Guptas who plans to marry his daughter to Shekhar, becomes irked by Damini's presence. He breaks his business partnership with the Guptas and begins conspiring against them, setting the stage for future conflicts.

Damini befriends Urmi, a young maid-servant in the Gupta household. Urmi is a victim of the family’s social dynamics, and Damini's friendship signifies her concern for justice and social issues.

During the Holi festival, Shekhar’s younger brother Rakesh and his friends gang-rape Urmi, the maid-servant. Damini witnesses the assault and rushes to intervene, but it is already too late. Urmi is later thrown by Rakesh and his friends on the roadside.

The Gupta family conspires to cover up the assault to protect their reputation. Damini chooses to inform the police despite her family's protests. The police are bribed by Tolu Bajaj, complicating the pursuit of justice.

Damini faces hardships in court where she is portrayed as mentally unstable by defense lawyer Indrajit Chaddha. She is confined in a mental institution under judicial order, and overhears plans to discredit and potentially kill her to silence her.

Damini escapes from the mental institution and meets Govind, an alcoholic lawyer who commits to helping her. With his intervention, the rape case is re-opened, and evidence against the Guptas is presented in court. The family’s attempts to hide the truth escalate tensions.

The Guptas and Bajaj plot to kill Damini, perceiving her as a threat. She faces an attack while going to court, but survives. Public support grows for Damini, and many household members leave the Gupta residence due to the scandal.

Bajaj and the Guptas plan to kill Damini at the court, but their plans are thwarted by locals. Shekhar, witnessing these threats, vows to stand by Damini, and is later kidnapped by goons trying to silence him. Mamaji rescues Shekhar from the kidnappers.

Damini and Shekhar arrive at court to testify as witnesses. Their testimonies expose the cover-up and implicate Rakesh, his friends, the Guptas, Bajaj, and Chaddha. The court sentences the culprits and recognizes Damini’s resilience.

The court delivers its verdict, convicted the wrongdoers, and sentenced them for blocking justice. Shekhar’s support and Damini’s courage are acknowledged as they set a historic example in law and order, achieving justice for Urmi.
