Amid sporadic artillery fire, Hid shows the newcomers around the operation. They reinforce another squad forced out of the duty-free shop and prepare to retake the area. The briefing sets the tone for the siege to come.

Hid finds and disarms an improvised explosive device near the duty-free shop. The squad retakes the duty-free, inflicting casualties on the withdrawing enemy who retreat down escalators. They seize the enemy's Russian-supplied ammunition as they consolidate their position.

Subota and Staryi share pilfered vodka from the duty-free. The moment of camaraderie provides a rare calm amid shelling. They reflect on honour and duty as the siege continues.

Serpen is given command and asks the squad why they fight. Staryi explains the doublespeak surrounding Russian aggression and his volunteering when his son joined. Subota talks about oath, honour and duty as motivation.

Mazhor stalks the ruined runway and captures a separatist prisoner under heavy fire. He races back to the terminal with his prize, arguing with Serpen about his actions. The clash foreshadows further moral disagreements within the unit.

Mars, driven by hatred for the invaders, channels his anger into the fight after the prisoner capture. He also expresses his own need for vengeance following a friend's death. The dynamic with Mazhor adds tension to the leadership decisions.

Mazhor blames Serpen's generation for the state's defeats, accusing him of intolerance and dismissing progressive European values. Serpen accuses Mazhor of being a pseudo-liberal idealist who knows little of Ukraine's history. Despite the dispute, Mazhor is permitted to remain with the squad.

The squad returns to the duty-free shop; Staryi begins singing, emboldening the separatists who climb the escalators. He arms himself and opens fire, joined by the others. The unit descends and fights their way back toward the airport terminal.

There is a tense prisoner exchange. Hid recognizes one of the prisoners as someone who tortured him earlier in the war and becomes agitated. They keep this man off the record, but Hid beats him in revenge.

Intelligence reveals that DPR forces plan to burn the airport with TOS-1 rocket artillery. Each squad member is given permission to leave, but they choose to stay for now, phoning family members and tying up loose ends.

Relief comes as tanks advance on the airport instead of the feared rocket systems. A Ukrainian tank moves into a protected position and exchanges fire; when it is disabled, the squad rescues its crew. Subota is wounded and, while being treated by a battlefield medic, posts a selfie which goes viral.

Serpen is fatally shot by a sniper while attempting to phone his family. The commander’s wife is informed by a phone call from the field. The squad mourns, and Mazhor evacuates Subota along with Serpen’s body as a chaplain delivers a moving speech over the fallen leader.

The squad is reinforced and the newcomers are questioned about their motivations. Among them is Mazhor, whose presence prompts reflection on the unit's purpose. A folk song plays as the group are taken on a tour of the desolate airport.
