Samantha Sherwood, a beautiful actress and muse for director Jonathan Stryker, feigns mental illness to get herself committed to an asylum. Inside, she discovers Stryker coerces her into method-rehearsing the material and auditioning younger women while she remains confined. Resolving to strike back, she plans to escape and seek revenge.

Amanda Teuther experiences a nightmare on the road to the audition. In the dream she spots a large doll in the middle of the road and moves to pull it away. When she wakes, a killer wearing a hag mask stabs her to death and takes her doll.

The five auditioning women and the uninvited Samantha arrive at Stryker's rural New England mansion for the audition process. Samantha appears during dinner, creating immediate tension among the group. A snowstorm blankets the estate, heightening isolation. That night, Tara has sex with Matthew in a jacuzzi while Stryker seduces Christie, and an unseen figure begins sharpening a sickle in the tool shed.

Christie discovers Amanda's doll and is attacked

Next morning Christie goes to a nearby pond to ice skate and uncovers Amanda's doll protruding from the snow. The masked killer appears, assaults Christie and wounds her as she struggles to escape through the woods. The killer decapitates Christie, ending the attack.

During a group audition, Stryker humiliates Samantha by forcing her to wear the hag mask and pretend to seduce him in front of the others. The moment underscores his manipulation and undermines her façade of control. The other women watch, unsure of what is real and what is theater.

After sharing a private moment, Brooke and Stryker are shot dead by a figure in a robe who appears in the mansion. They tumble from the second floor, with Stryker's body crashing through a window downstairs, leaving the survivors in shock and disarray.

Tara discovers the bodies of Brooke, Stryker, and Matthew and finds the cars blocked by the snow. She takes shelter in Stryker's expansive prop shed, where the killer ambushes her three times. She fights them off, hides in a ventilation duct, and is ultimately slain with an axe when she tries to escape.

Samantha finds Patti in the kitchen, and they drink champagne while discussing Audra's insanity. Samantha reveals that she killed Stryker and Brooke out of rage, but Patti confesses she murdered the other women to eliminate competition. Patti corners Samantha in the kitchen and stabs her to death with a butcher knife.
