Cry Macho

In 1979, Mike Milo, a former Texas rodeo star, faces retirement due to a debilitating back injury. His once-thriving career in rodeo comes to a halt as he adjusts to life away from the sport he loved.

The following year, Mike's former boss Howard Polk reaches out to him with a special request. Howard needs Mike's help to travel to Mexico City to retrieve his estranged son, Rafo, from his neglectful mother.

Upon arriving in Mexico, Mike meets Rafo's mother, Leta, in her lavish mansion. She reveals the troubling state in which Rafo lives, caught up in a life of crime and cockfighting.

Mike discovers Rafo in the midst of a dangerous cockfight, just as a police raid interrupts the match. After the chaos clears, Mike relays his father's desire for Rafo to come home to Texas.

Returning to Leta's mansion to escort Rafo home, Mike encounters drunk Leta who insists that Rafo belongs to her. Despite her threats, Mike is determined to get Rafo out of the toxic environment.

After a confrontation with his mother, Rafo surprises Mike by hiding in his truck. With the risk of being reported as a kidnapper, Mike reluctantly allows Rafo to accompany him on the journey to the Texas border.

As they travel together, Mike and Rafo share personal stories that reveal their pasts. Rafo describes the neglect and abuse he has faced at the hands of his mother, deepening their bond.

While dining, Mike calls Howard to confirm he has found Rafo. Trouble arises when Aurelio, one of Leta's henchmen, tries to take Rafo back, leading to a chaotic brawl instigated by Rafo's courage.

After escaping Aurelio, Mike and Rafo realize their truck has been stolen. They must adapt quickly in the next town, where Mike buys new clothes to help them blend in, and Rafo finds an abandoned car.

They seek shelter at a cantina owned by Marta. While Mike opens up about his own tragic past, Marta assists them in staying hidden from the law, fostering a nurturing environment.

Engaging in ranch work, Mike teaches Rafo the skills of horseback riding. This shared activity strengthens their connection, serving as a distraction from the dangers they face on their journey.

As Mike and Rafo continue evading pursuit, they confront another dangerous encounter with Aurelio and the police. Despite the mounting risks, Mike remains committed to protecting Rafo.

In a dramatic climax, Aurelio blocks their path, brandishing a gun. Macho, the rooster, distracts Aurelio just long enough for Mike to take control and escape.

After crossing the border, Rafo gives Macho to Mike as a farewell token that symbolizes their bond. Rafo reunites with his father Howard while Mike chooses to stay in Mexico.

With Rafo safely back with his father, Mike finds solace in reconnecting with Marta. This decision marks the beginning of a new chapter in Mike's life, filled with hope and potential.
