Contrary Condor

An adventurous map opens the short, tracing the trek of Donald Duck as his footprints slip from North America into South America, carving a bold path through the towering Andes. Clad with improvised plungers on his feet, he clings to a sheer rock face and yodels his way upward, the wind whipping around him as he nears a condor nest.

At the top, he spots the nest and eyes an egg, while a hatchling that has already emerged squawks in protest at this intruder. In a reckless impulse, he tells the noisy youngster to hush and shoves it back into its eggshell. With the mother condor gliding overhead, Donald makes a desperate dash for safety, slipping into the shell of the other hatchling and accidentally ejecting the first one. When the Mother Condor lands and settles on the egg in which Donald is hiding, the warmth that floods the shell is nearly too much to bear, and he sweats in a panic.

The egg suddenly begins to crack, and a close brush with the toppling shell frightens him into action. Thinking fast, Donald pretends to be a condor himself. The mother, convinced by his mimicry, gives him a cautious hug, much to the surprise of the real hatchling. She then sends her brood off to learn to fly, and the hatchlings leap from branch to branch with bright, eager energy. One bold moment comes when the jealous hatchling shoves Donald off a branch; he grabs a nearby branch with his clothes snagged, hanging on as a storm cloud drizzles rain all over him.

Determined to escape this perilous perch, Donald engineers a clever decoy from branches and leaves and launches it toward the river below. The Mother Condor rushes to save what she believes is her fallen hatchling and sobs with relief when she realizes the deception isn’t real. In the confusion, Donald seizes the other condor egg, hoping to emerge victorious, but the hatchling quickly steals it back. Undeterred, Donald recovers the egg again, only to lose his footing and tumble into the river while guarding it.

Relief washes over the Mother Condor when she discovers that both Donald and the precious egg are still alive. She gathers them into her protective embrace, and the trio settles in for the night, nestled together as the stars glow above. Throughout the quiet moments, Donald mutters under his breath, a mix of frustration and stubborn resolve, yet the bond between them grows stronger as they rest in a shared, unlikely family.

In the end, a fragile alliance forms between the unlikely trio: Donald, the hatchling, and the mother condor, bound by a night of bids for survival and a daybreak promise to look out for each other. The short closes with the warm, tender image of the three tucked safely together, the rhythm of wings and wind marking the quiet heartbeat of this peculiar alliance.
