Clown in a Cornfield

Teenager Quinn Maybrook (Katie Douglas) moves to the seemingly quiet town of Kettle Springs, Missouri, with her father, Dr. Glenn Maybrook (Aaron Abrams), following the tragic overdose of her mother. Upon their arrival, they are met with an unsettling surprise—a dead animal discovered in their new home’s fireplace, which serves as an ominous precursor to the chaos that will unfold.

As Quinn begins her first day at a new school, she encounters a cast of characters including her neighbor Rust (Vincent Muller), and an unpleasant encounter with her teacher, Mr. Vern (Bradley Sawatzky), results in her landing detention. Yet, amidst the drama, she finds camaraderie with a group of friends: Cole (Carson MacCormac), Janet (Cassandra Potenza), Ronnie (Verity Marks), Matt (Alexandre Martin Deakin), and Tucker (Ayo Solanke). This group soon shares their passion for filmmaking with Quinn, showcasing their homemade movies, where Tucker and Matt dress as the town’s boogeyman, a killer clown known as Frendo.

The atmosphere of fun soon takes a dark turn during Quinn and Dr. Glenn’s visit to a diner, where they meet Sheriff Dunne (Will Sasso). He warns Quinn to steer clear of her new friends, blaming them for a fire that recently consumed the Baypen syrup factory—a fire that claims to have left its charred footprint on the town’s reputation. Defying the warning, Quinn decides to join her friends instead. Their adventures lead to a trip to the local liquor store and a night full of pranks, including a gruesome re-enactment of a Frendo horror scene, building tension as the shadow of Frendo looms closer.

Tragedy strikes when Tucker finds himself alone at home, where he is stalked and ultimately killed by Frendo. The chilling nature of the clown escalates as they further discover that the town’s bitter history with the character is tied to some of its own residents, leading to a series of horrifying circumstances. During Founder’s Day celebrations, chaos erupts as a bizarre attack occurs involving the clowns, resulting in the teens being wrongly accused of the escalating violence.

As the layers of Kettle Springs’ dark history are peeled back, Quinn and her friends face a grim truth: the individuals responsible for the nefarious acts against them are none other than the town’s authority figures, including Mayor Arthur Hill (Kevin Durand), who reveals that the traditions of the townsfolk led to the systematic targeting of those who threaten their idyllic facade, labeling them as outsiders.

In a desperate bid for survival, Quinn, Cole, and the remaining friends navigate a deadly maze filled with confrontations and bloodshed, battling against both Frendo and the town’s cruel residents. As the horrific night unfolds, Quinn finds herself pushing past physical and emotional boundaries to rescue her father and friends while confronting the dark legacy of Kettle Springs.

Ultimately, the battle culminates in a furious showdown, where Quinn must confront the true horror of the town’s traditions, leading to a fight for life and a poignant reconciliation with her father. Afterward, the community bears the scars of the night’s events, but Quinn emerges with hope for a brighter future. She sets her sights on college, with newfound friendships and a revitalized bond with her father, as he steps towards a promising political career in the shattered yet resilient town they now call home.
