Chasing Papi

The curtain rises on a vivid narrative of Tomás Fuentes’s life, portrayed by Eduardo Verástegui, set against a vibrant backdrop filled with the enchantment of feminine allure. Currently residing in Los Angeles, he is a successful representative for the Olivero & Sanchez Marketing Group, entangled in a complex romantic web involving not one, but three captivating women. First, there’s Cici (Sofía Vergara), a spirited cocktail waitress from Miami who craves the spotlight. Then, we have Patricia Sofia Ordonez Coronado del Pescador (Jaci Velasquez), a debutante from New York’s elite society, striving desperately to escape her mother’s well-meaning yet stifling attempts to see her married off. Lastly, there’s Lorena Morales (Roselyn Sánchez), a sharp and ambitious lawyer from Chicago who relishes the way Tomás ignites her inner siren. Collectively, they affectionately refer to him as “Papi.”

As this tangled romantic escapade intensifies, it begins to intertwine with his professional life, culminating in a dramatic collapse during an important presentation. His doctor, [Ian Gomez], upon discovering the intricacies of Tomás’s love life, urges him to focus on just one woman, prescribing tranquilizers while cautioning him against driving, drinking, and – most importantly – women.

In a twist of fate, the three women independently converge on Los Angeles after their horoscopes are interpreted by the mystifying fortune teller Walter Mercado on Univision’s Primer Impacto. Arriving at Tomás’s home just as he seeks medical help, instead of succumbing to rivalry, they band together to leave him in the lurch as a form of retribution for his unfaithfulness. Upon returning, Tomás, desperate and mixing his tranquilizers with alcohol, passes out again.

Meanwhile, Mary, Tomás’s devoted secretary, checks on him. Unbeknownst to the women, FBI agent Carmen Rivera ([Lisa Vidal]) is outside, involved in an investigation into Cici’s business partner’s counterfeit dealings. The girls mistakenly interpret Agent Rivera as “the L.A. woman” they feared, prompting them to hastily devise a plan to rescue Tomás before things spiral out of control.

As the trio rushes to take Tomás away, they embark on a chaotic journey that intertwines their fates. They opt for a Marriott over a Motel 6, but their plans are soon thrown into disarray when Patricia discovers her credit cards are mysteriously canceled by her mother. Suddenly, Lorena’s striking resemblance to Miss Puerto Rico allows her to impersonate her at the Miss Latina American Beauty Pageant happening at their hotel. While settling into their new roles, Cici and Patricia pose as her staff, all while sipping champagne and revealing their personal stories in Lorena’s lavish suite.

When the morning dawns, Lorena faces judgment while Cici must resolve a car delivery to a mysterious figure named Rodrigo ([D.L. Hughley]). As they leave Tomás behind, Agent Rivera seizes the moment and abducts him, revealing Rodrigo’s ulterior motive: a vital package hidden in the trunk of the car.

Returning to the hotel, the group discovers Tomás is missing and left only with a note coercing them to meet at the L.A. Latin festival with a hefty ransom – a warning to avoid law enforcement echoes ominously. Fueled by determination, the women decide to take matters into their own hands, pursues the crooks along the way, all while attending to Lorena’s unexpected yet crucial role in the pageant.

Amidst the drama, Patricia uncovers a surprising cache of cash just as the directors frantically search for Lorena, inviting her to face the pageant judges. In a scene brimming with tension, the genuine Miss Puerto Rico exposes Lorena’s disguise, leading to a thrilling altercation. Meanwhile, as Tomás awakens in Agent Rivera’s car, he learns of her sinister scheme to use him and the girls in her pursuit of Rodrigo and Victor.

The ensuing chase requires the women to dive head-first into danger and chaos, including a frantic motorcycle heist. With the festival rapidly approaching, chaos breaks out as the girls, determined to evade capture, plunge into a euphoric dance routine filled with joy and authenticity, showcasing their unique backgrounds.

As events spiral, they navigate their path to rescue Tomás, leading to a high-stakes showdown filled with thrilling suspicions and unexpected alliances. As he reconnects with the women, Tomás comes to a crucial realization regarding his relationships, choosing introspection and personal growth over fleeting romances.

Over time, the trio transitions from their dramatic escapades to post-graduation life, with Patricia thriving in her new role at an art gallery, Cici entertaining at sea, and Lorena dedicating herself to justice and tango. Throughout this journey, Fifi, Patricia’s dog, embraces the wisdom of astrology, hinting at profound connections yet to unfold, ultimately leading to new beginnings in their intertwined destinies.
