Charlie's Angels (2000) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Charlie's Angels (2000), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Natalie Cook, played by Cameron Diaz, Dylan Sanders, portrayed by Drew Barrymore, and Alex Munday, represented by Lucy Liu, are the formidable trio known as the “Angels.” These stunning and skilled private investigators operate under the guidance of an enigmatic millionaire named Charlie, voiced by Forsythe. Charlie communicates with them through a speaker system in his office, while his trusty assistant Bosley, played by Bill Murray, provides direct support when necessary.

Their latest mission leads the Angels to locate Eric Knox, a brilliant software genius and founder of Knox Enterprises, who has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. Knox is rumored to have been abducted by Roger Corwin, a shady figure running Redstar, a communications-satellite company. During an undercover operation at one of Corwin’s parties, the Angels spot a mysterious thin man, seen on surveillance footage, and engage in a thrilling chase that eventually reveals Knox’s whereabouts.

Once Knox is safely reunited with his business partner, Vivian Wood, the Angels must unravel whether this elusive thin man has managed to purloin Knox’s innovative voice-recognition technology. In a daring move, they infiltrate Redstar’s headquarters, outsmart the security systems, and plant a device that allows remote access to the central computer. After their meticulous mission, the Angels rest for the night, but things take a sinister turn when Dylan accepts an invitation from Knox for a night together.

Unfortunately, Knox’s true intentions come to light as he betrays Dylan, confessing that the kidnapping was a ruse orchestrated with help from Vivian and the thin man. With Bosley taken hostage and access to Redstar’s systems, Knox is bent on seeking revenge on Charlie, whom he blames for his father’s death during the Vietnam War. A tense showdown ensues, during which Knox shoots at Dylan, but she miraculously escapes unscathed.

As the Angels regroup, disaster strikes when Charlie’s offices are demolished. However, a radio receiver survives, enabling the Angels to pinpoint Bosley’s location through a cleverly hidden transmitter. With assistance from Dylan’s boyfriend Chad, they navigate to an abandoned lighthouse where Bosley is held captive. After a fierce battle with Knox’s henchmen and the thin man, they liberate Bosley just before Knox ignites a series of explosions.

In a climactic pursuit, Knox manages to board a helicopter armed with missiles aiming for Charlie. Yet, Bosley ingeniously aids the Angels in commandeering the helicopter, leading to a thrilling moment where Alex reprograms the missile just in time. The missile backfires, destroying the helicopter and eliminating Knox while the Angels make a perilous but safe landing in the ocean.

Eager to finally meet Charlie face-to-face, the Angels head to the beach house but discover that Charlie has already departed. In a final twist, he remotely commends them for their success and rewards the group, including Bosley, with a well-deserved vacation. While conversing on the beach, Dylan has a fleeting moment of realization, as she suspects she spots Charlie in the vicinity speaking into a cell phone, marking the end of their exhilarating adventure.
