Albert Brown, an aspiring rapper and suburban teenager who idolizes the gangsta rappers showcased on his television, embarks on a journey to form a rap group with his friends, Euripides and Otis. Despite their undeniable talent, the trio lacks connections and an image to promote themselves effectively.
To get their names recognized and establish their reputation, they approach the local crime lord and nightclub owner, Gusto, along with his henchman 40 Dog, to request a performance spot at his club. However, their plans take a shocking turn when the police unexpectedly storm in and arrest Gusto, leading him to believe the trio has betrayed him. Vowing revenge when he is out, Albert seizes the opportunity to assume Gusto’s criminal identity, renaming himself “MC Gusto.” Meanwhile, Euripides and Otis adopt the monikers “Dead Mike” and “Stab Master Arson.”
Pretending to be recently released felons, they form a hardcore gangsta rap group called CB4 (Cell Block 4) and quickly attract the attention of local music mogul Trustus Jones. CB4’s rise to fame is meteoric, thanks to their provocative hits such as “Sweat from My Balls” and “Straight Outta LoCash,” all captured on film by an aspiring director and his cameraman. However, their success garners scrutiny from an ambitious politician eager to suppress them on obscenity grounds. Added to this are internal conflicts spurred by Dead Mike’s gold-digging girlfriend, Sissy, and the pressures of their fabricated identities, which strain Albert’s home life and relationship with his genuine girlfriend, Daliha.
As the chaos escalates, the real Gusto escapes from incarceration, seeking vengeance against Albert by compelling him to participate in a record store heist that exposes Albert’s identity through CCTV footage. This blackmail scheme grants Gusto leverage over Albert, who soon finds the group fracturing as Dead Mike turns to Afrocentric rap, while Stab Master Arson transitions into a successful DJ career. Alone and consumed by despair and drug addiction, Albert learns of Trustus’ tragic death—he choked in fright while dining when Gusto threatened him at gunpoint.
Determined to break free from Gusto’s oppressive grasp, Albert devises a plan to trap the gangster. He orchestrates a sting operation, tricking Sissy into seducing Gusto before swapping places with her to entrap him for the police. Coming to terms with his true self, Albert reinvents himself and persuades Mike and Stab Master Arson to reunite. Together, they embark on a triumphant comeback tour, reclaiming their identities and careers in the process.
