Buchanan Rides Alone

While returning from Mexico, Tom Buchanan rides into the border town of Agry, entering a community embroiled in a violent feud. His arrival sets the stage for the unfolding conflict as he becomes involved with local residents. The tension in the town quickly draws him into the feud.

Tom punches young Roy Agry during an altercation, which escalates tensions. Roy, intoxicated and hot-headed, threatens to kill Tom in retaliation. This act marks the beginning of the violent entanglements between Tom and the Agry clan.

Juan de la Vega rides in and kills Roy Agry in self-defense after Roy assaults his sister. Juan's act of violence significantly impacts the town's simmering feud and draws Tom further into the conflict. Juan is later arrested for Roy's death.

Tom tries to help Juan during his arrest, drawing suspicion. Both men are detained, and rumors circulate that they planned Roy Agry's killing together. The town begins to see them as conspirators, intensifying tensions.

A lynching is planned for Juan, but Judge Simon Agry intervenes, pretending to uphold a fair trial. In reality, he seeks to extort Juan's wealthy family for his release. This event exposes the corrupt justice system in the town.

A trial is held where Tom is found not guilty and released, while Juan, who offers no defense, is convicted and sentenced to hang. Tom attempts to secure Juan's freedom, but Sheriff Lew Agry warns him to leave town, taking Tom's money in the process.

Tom vows to return to reclaim his $2,000 from Agry. The sheriff's men escort Tom out of town under false pretenses, but Pecos Hill, one of the escorts, kills his colleague and forms a partnership with Tom. They rest briefly at an abandoned shack before Tom prepares to confront the town.

Juan's father offers thirty horses to secure his son's release, but Simon Agry demands $50,000 cash. Sheriff Lew Agry overhears the deal and plots to steal the ransom money for himself. Meanwhile, Gomez is sent as a representative to negotiate Juan's release.

Gomez returns with the ransom funds, but Juan's cell has been emptied by enforcer Carbo. Tom, returning to town, forces Sheriff Lew to unlock his safe and retrieve his money. However, Juan is recaptured by sheriff's men who re-arrest him and kill Pecos Hill.

In a final showdown, Gomez, Lew Agry, and townspeople engage in a gunfight. During the chaos, the $50,000 ransom is dropped in the street, and in the exchange of gunfire, both the judge and sheriff shoot each other, resulting in their mutual deaths. Juan is eventually freed as a result of the chaos.

With the death of the judge and sheriff, the town falls into the hands of Gunfighter Carbo, who inherits control. Juan is released from jail, and the ransom money is returned to his family. Tom prepares to leave town and continue his journey to Texas.

Having completed his involvement in the town's chaos, Tom resumes his journey. He leaves Agry with unresolved debts and a resolve to return, as he heads back towards Texas, closing the chapter of this violent feud.
