After leaving Shaw Brothers in Hong Kong, director Li Han‑hsiang made an ambitious 1960s Taiwanese epic about Xishi, one of China’s Four Great Beauties. Set during the Warring States, it follows the war between Yue and Wu. Defeated Yue king Goujian sends Xishi to the lecherous Wu ruler Fucha as a concubine‑spy, using her charm to distract him while Goujian prepares a comeback.
