Baby’s Day Out

Three criminals disguise themselves as baby photographers to kidnap Bink Cotwell from his Chicago suburb mansion. They demand a ransom of five million dollars. The kidnapping sets off a nationwide manhunt as the family, nanny Gilbertine, and the FBI piece together what happened.

Norby pretends to read Bink's favorite Baby's Day Out to lull him to sleep, but his boredom makes him pass out. Bink notices a pigeon on the page and then one near the window, which he follows out of the apartment. The baby escapes, triggering a frantic chase.

Bink traverses from the apartment grounds into the city streets, starting a wide chase. Eddie falls from the building into a garbage bin during the scramble.

The FBI arrives at the Cotwell mansion, led by Dale Grissom, to piece clues with Bink's parents and nanny Gilbertine. Agents begin coordinating the search and tracking sightings around the city.

Bink discovers another part of his book—the blue bus—and crawls onto the moving vehicle, starting a new leg of his escape. The criminals realize he's escaping and pursue the bus in their van.

On the bus, Bink crawls into the bag of an obese woman and disembarks at her stop. When the criminals reach the bus, they discover he is not there and confront the woman, leading to a tense altercation.

Bink slips into a department store through a revolving door and is mistaken for a lost child by a day-care employee. The employee takes him in briefly. He then escapes again and crawls into traffic after a taxi ride.

News of Bink's movements reaches his parents, who coordinate with the FBI to track his whereabouts across the city. A citizen, Joe Depke, reports a sighting but is bribed to forget what he saw, complicating the search.

The chase leads to the city zoo, where Bink befriends a western lowland gorilla. The gorilla protects him and even shares fruit, thwarting the criminals.

Two police officers notice the van's engine still running and confront the criminals in the zoo's park. Eddie hides Bink under his coat, but Bink uses a cigarette lighter to set Eddie's groin on fire and slips away as the officers are distracted.

The pursuit shifts to a construction site, where near-disaster strikes repeatedly. Veeko is hurled off a building, Norby sinks into wet cement, and Eddie gets stranded on a crane, forcing the criminals to reassess their plan.

With the sun setting, Bink reaches the Old Soldiers' Home, where veterans recognize him on TV and entertain him with a performance of This Is the Army, Mr. Jones.

As Bink is spotted by the public and reunited with his parents outside the home, the FBI surrounds the criminals. Grissom retrieves Bink's book and orders the arrest of Eddie, Norby, and Veeko.

Back at home, the family discusses having a normal photograph taken in the morning while Bink wakes up eager to read another adventure—Baby's Trip to China.
