Avtaar

The film opens with Radha Kishan mourning Avtaar Kishan's death as she garlands his bust. The moment quickly shifts to a flashback that takes the viewer back thirty years to their meeting and marriage.

Radha the daughter of a wealthy Mumbai businessman falls in love with Avtaar a Punjabi mechanic. Her father disapproves so the lovers elope and marry despite the opposition.

After enduring many hardships the couple persevere and gradually build their life. By the end of the period of struggle Avtaar owns a modest house and a growing fortune.

They have two sons Chandar and Ramesh. Chandar marries Renu and becomes a ghar jamai despite Avtaar s wishes. Ramesh registers the house under his wife name, against his fathers wishes.

Avtaar leaves his home after clashes over their sons choices. He is joined by Radha and their loyal servant Sewak as they depart.

With little money and a crippled right hand Avtaar starts his own garage. Sewak helps by secretly donating blood to raise funds for the business.

Sewak helps the young enterprise, and Bawaji reveals the truth about Sewaks loyalty. Radha and Avtaar begin to regard Sewak as a true son.

Avtaars best friend Rashid Ahmed, an aging Muslim car mechanic, suffers at the hands of his cruel daughter in law Zubaida. Anwar returns from Dubai and Rashid falls ill. Avtaar opens an old age home called Apna Ghar to help such people.

Avtaars luck changes when a carburetor he works on earns a patent. He starts manufacturing engine parts and builds an industrial empire led by himself Radha and Sewak.

To exact revenge Avtaar undercuts Laxmi Narayan by selling parts at lower rates and offers double wages to workers, which devastates the rival business.

A fraud at the bank where Ramesh works leads to his arrest. Sudha seeks Avtaars help but he rebukes her. Later Bawaji arranges bail for Ramesh in secret.

Laxmi Narayan throws Chandar out of his home. Ramesh, Chandar and Sudha go to Radha for assistance, but Avtaar refuses to intervene.

Radha learns the full truth about Sewak loyalty and Avtaars actions from Bawaji and realizes her earlier harsh judgments were wrong.

Radha discovers Avtaar has suffered a massive heart attack after her confrontation. He has written his will and left two lakhs to each son and made Sewak his true son to carry out the final rites.

The story returns to the opening frame as Radha mourns Avtaar, now bearing the legacy of his life and the bond with Sewak.
