Audition

Shigeharu visits his wife Ryoko in hospital, where she dies from an undisclosed illness. Her death leaves him grieving and emotionally withdrawn, setting up his later search for a new partner.

Seven years after Ryoko's death, Shigeharu's teenage son Shigehiko urges him to find a new wife and resume family life. His plea both unsettles and motivates his father to consider remarriage.

Film producer Yasuhisa Yoshikawa devises a fake casting audition to test potential wives for Shigeharu. The plan is framed as a legitimate casting for a new television series, masking the true purpose.

Asami Yamazaki auditions and makes a strong impression on Shigeharu, who is immediately enchanted by her calm, enigmatic presence. Their chemistry grows as they continue to meet in the wake of the audition.

Yasuhisa grows suspicious when he cannot verify references on Asami's résumé, including a missing music producer. The lack of verifiable history casts a shadow over her story.

After several dates, Asami accompanies Shigeharu to a hotel where she reveals burn scars and demands that he pledge his love before marriage. Deeply moved, he agrees to pursue a relationship with her.

The morning after, Shigeharu receives a front-desk call informing him that Asami has left. The message leaves him confused but continues to chase the growing connection.

Shigeharu tries to verify Asami's background but hits dead ends. He visits a dance studio where a man with prosthetic feet hints at past abuse, and learns of a bar linked to Asami that was abandoned after a murder.

A local man tells Shigeharu that police recovered an extra tongue, an extra ear, and three extra fingers with a body, hinting at a horrific history connected to Asami. The revelation fuels Shigeharu's growing horror and paranoia, accompanied by unsettling hallucinations.

Asami sneaks into Shigeharu's house, kills the family dog Gangu, and drugs his liquor. Shigeharu returns home, drinks the spiked beverage, and collapses, beginning a nightmarish ordeal.

Shigeharu is injected with a paralytic agent and tortured with acupuncture needles, his body reacting in pain. During the nightmare, he experiences a false awakening in a hotel and even propositions Asami, who accepts the offer.

Shigehiko returns home during the climax and Asami attacks him. Shigeharu appears to wake again to reality, and Shigehiko fights Asami, ultimately kicking her down the stairs and breaking her neck. Asami dies as Shigeharu tells Shigehiko to call the police, while the dying Asami repeats her earlier declaration about loving him only.
