Living in the wreckage, Overgård tends to fishing lines, maps his surroundings, and operates a hand-crank dynamo to send SOS signals. His dire survival situation is marked by frostbite and dwindling hope for rescue.

To signal for help, Overgård painstakingly carves an 'SOS' sign in the snow near his downed aircraft. This desperate act symbolizes his relentless fight for survival and his hope for rescue.

A polar bear invades Overgård's cache of fish, threatening his already limited food supply. This confrontation highlights the dangers of the Arctic environment that Overgård must navigate.

In a moment of hope, a helicopter responds to his distress signal. However, as it attempts to land amidst an ice storm, it tragically crashes, leaving one pilot dead and passenger Maria severely injured.

Despite the language barrier, Overgård shows compassion by tending to Maria's wounds. He uses staplers to close a deep gash in her abdomen, demonstrating his resourcefulness and determination.

In a tragic twist of fate, Overgård falls into a crevasse and knocks himself unconscious. When he regains consciousness, he finds himself trapped under a boulder but musters the strength to free himself.

After freeing himself from the boulder, Overgård rushes back to the sled, relieved to find Maria still alive. This moment ignites a renewed hope within him as he chooses to continue their journey together.

With dwindling resources, Overgård spots a helicopter in the distance. Desperate, he tries to signal for help, even lighting his parka on fire, but faces heartbreak as the helicopter takes off without noticing them.
