Set against the quiet, reverent backdrop of the Mookambika Temple, the story follows Aravindan, a boy abandoned on Navarathri day in 1996 who is taken in and cared for by a kind hotelier, Madhavan. Growing up under his guardian’s warmth, Aravindan becomes the lodge’s caretaker, cultivating a passion for the arts and a sense of social duty. Yet beneath his cheerful exterior lies a patient ache: a longing to meet the mother who left him, and a quiet, unspoken devotion to the deity he has not dared to approach since that day.

When Varada, a disciplined Bharatanatyam student, arrives with her family to the temple to inaugurate her budding dance career, Aravindan quietly crosses paths with her world. He helps bring Varada’s troupe to Madhavan’s lodge, and fate takes an unexpected turn when Varada slips and breaks her leg, forcing her to stay and rest there. During her recovery, she starts to see Aravindan in a new light, and he offers her more than shelter—he helps her take her art further by arranging a chance to choreograph a video album. Varada reveals her dream of studying under the renowned danseuse Janaki Subramaniam, and Aravindan uses his connections to arrange a meeting and a path for Varada to study under Janaki, even in Kumbakonam.

Driven by Aravindan’s enduring wish to locate his mother, Varada makes it her mission to uncover his past. As a painter, Aravindan has sketched his earliest memories, and Varada uses these drawings to chase clues about his mother’s identity. Janaki hints at a bigger project—a new dance show in the United States centered on motherhood—which raises Varada’s suspicions, since her earlier works explored themes of Faith and Love. A schoolmate reveals that Janaki was married young and had a son, but she left her husband after he pressed her to abandon dancing, leaving their whereabouts uncertain.

The hunt leads Varada to Udupi, the region Aravindan is said to hail from, and she invites him to uncover the truth. To her heartbreak, she learns that Aravindan is not Janaki’s son; instead, Janaki’s real son lives in the United States and she has kept her personal life private. Undeterred, Varada, with the help of friends and Rasheed, pores over maps and pincodes, tracing clues from Aravindan’s drawings and consulting a government office to learn that his birth was officially registered. The records reveal that his mother is Geethalakshmi and his father is Dr. Balakrishnan, painting a picture of a family history that had been hidden away for years. A steady pursuit of the past leads them to a rented house and an old postman who confirms that Balakrishnan had abandoned them, while Geethalakshmi—then a nursing student from a low-income background—had sent rental dues as money orders after leaving the place.

As the pieces come together, Varada learns that Geethalakshmi is now married into another family and is not willing to reclaim her son, despite her lingering sadness at having left him in a Children’s home during difficult times. She carries that burden quietly, shaped by the social pressures of the era and her own difficult choices. In a quiet culmination, Geethalakshmi visits Mookambika with her family, and the moment arrives for Aravindan to see the Mookambika Goddess with his mother present, all while Varada performs her debutante dance, bringing the threads of longing, devotion, and reconciliation to a heartfelt close. The temple’s sacred space becomes the stage where a mother and son are finally offered a glimpse of each other, bridged by art, memory, and an enduring faith.
