The opening scene follows Sivaraman as he arrives in Chennai to contest the company’s long-ignored decision not to hire him. He is resolute about reclaiming the job that slipped away years ago. This arrival sets up the central conflict with Geetha and the town's politics.

Geetha pretends to be an influential figure in the town and threatens Sivaraman to let her stay in the job. The company manager sides with Geetha, blocking his efforts. Sivaraman resolves to stay in town and fight for his entitlement.

Sivaraman rents a room at the theatre house Sakthi Nadaga Sabha, sharing with Nambi Annan and Masha. Tensions arise as Masha initially resents the new tenant and resists his presence. Their awkward coexistence marks the formation of an unlikely trio.

Masha hatches schemes to drive Sivaraman out, using trickery and manipulation. Her efforts prove ineffective as Sivaraman refuses to be booted. The uneasy dynamic foreshadows the later bond among them.

Sivaraman uncovers that Masha's claims of working as an air hostess and of sending money home are false. He labels her a fraud, shocking Nambi. The revelation begins to soften tensions and invites honesty among the trio.

During a visit to Geetha, he learns her mother is mentally ill, her brother is going blind, and her sister’s husband has left. Moved by her hardships, he decides to withdraw from pursuing the job claim. This marks a moment of empathy and self-sacrifice.

Sivaraman, drunk, reveals Masha's fraud to Nambi. Masha confesses, explaining she lied to comfort her mother. The truth dissolves hostility and the trio vow to become friends despite poverty.

The three agree to remain friends and try to brighten their bleak situation together. They begin to look for moments of joy and mutual support in their shared chaos. The bond among them deepens as they face ongoing hardship.

A gang led by Pakki Ram and Charan Singh kidnaps the daughter of a rich businessman, Sakthinathan, and demands a ransom of Rs 100,000. The panicked trio realizes they know little about the people involved. The kidnapping sets off the central crisis of the story.

Sivaraman devises a brokered plan to intercede between Pakki Ram and Sakthinathan after discovering the phone numbers are transposed. They propose to act as middlemen, demand Rs 4,00,000 from Sakthinathan, return the daughter, and take a profit. They must maneuver around the police while executing the scheme.

They manage to rescue the girl and hand her over to Sakthinathan, but are soon cornered by the police and forced to confess the ruse. Sakthinathan initially reacts with anger, and Sivaraman seems to face dire consequences when he escapes a shooting attempt. He then promises money for Geetha's brother's eye operation and pledges to be ready with funds in the morning.

Sakthinathan forgives them for the ruse and awards them the money as a prize for their efforts. Masha arrives later, having settled the money, and confesses her love for Sivaraman. The trio ends the arc with a fragile but hopeful sense of possibility amid their ongoing poverty.
