Amityville 1992: It’s About Time

Jacob Sterling returns from a business trip to Amityville and reveals that his firm has been commissioned to design a new neighborhood. He also brings back an old mantel clock found among the ruins and places it on the fireplace, claiming it completes their home. The clock’s arrival is brushed off as a quirky home accent, but it is immovable and begins to cast a shadow over the house.

From the moment it’s set on the mantel, the clock sticks there as if glued. It ticks loudly, and the noise can be heard upstairs, creating an unnerving atmosphere. The initial sense of routine turns into a creeping dread.

That night, Rusty goes downstairs and turns on the living room light; the room morphs into an ancient torture chamber instead of the familiar space. The illusion repeats until the lightbulb burns out, leaving the family in darkness and unsettled. The transformation hints that the house is altering reality around them.

The next morning, Mrs. Tetmann’s dog Peaches lunges at Jacob during a routine encounter, and he defends himself with a bottle. At the hospital, a doctor mistakes Andrea for Jacob’s wife and tells her to care for him, while Jacob dismisses her help back at home.

Rusty visits his neighbor Iris Wheeler to share what he and his sister have been seeing. Iris warns that an old force has found a new home because its old place is gone, and that it wants to stay with them.

During dinner, Andrea asks Rusty to fetch the phone book, and he returns to find the kitchen empty and the table cleared. He discovers that three hours have somehow slipped away without any memory of what happened. The house feels hollow, and the days seem shortened.

Lisa, who is staying on the couch, allows Andrea to sleep in her room. Around 3:00 a.m., the living room doors slam shut and lock Lisa inside, trapping her in darkness. The claustrophobic moment highlights the clock’s tightening grip on the house.

Andrea experiences something slimy on her bed, finding it soaked in black slime. When she turns on the light, she sees nothing and wonders if Rusty locked her in and is slipping into paranoia. The unsettling incident adds to the sense that something unseen is manipulating them.

On the following morning, Peaches is found dead, with a swastika drawn in blood on Mrs. Tetmann’s house. The police quickly suspect Rusty of foul play, ratcheting up the fear in the neighborhood.

That same day, Iris discovers the clock is the source of the troubles, but as she tries to warn Rusty, a truck delivering a stork statue releases it and it falls on her, killing her. The clock’s influence becomes tragically personal and deadly.

Back at the Sterling home, a cascade of clock-driven events disrupts the family: Andy melts away, Leonard the doctor becomes goo, a zombie rises from the bathtub, and Jacob grows aggressively unstable. Rusty is forced to defend himself and ends up killing Lisa in what appears to be self-defense as the clock tightens its control.

Andrea fights Jacob; the clock actively ages Rusty back into a child as he attempts to destroy it. She urges the clock to release Rusty and begins breaking open the wall to uncover the clock’s hidden gears, determined to end the haunting.

Inside the wall, Andrea discovers giant clock gears and realizes they can’t simply be destroyed. She ignites a gas pipe, triggering an explosion that hurls the clock into another dimension.

Andrea wakes up back to her normal age on the first night Jacob brought the clock home. She sees the clock in Jacob’s hands, becomes furious and breaks it, deciding to leave. Rusty looks toward Iris across the street, and they share a quiet moment of mutual remembrance as memory of others remains unclear.
