On the road to the country cottage, Isabelle posts the disks to her publisher to expose Jacques. The act implies an intent to go public with evidence while remaining on the run. The motive is to ensure justice after all the harm.

The surviving hit man tracks them to the empty cottage. He wounds Sofia before Edward arrives in a stolen car and shoots the attacker. The group continues to flee as police approach.

Isabelle guides the group to her former convent where they are offered sanctuary. Police surround the building, intending to arrest Edward for murder. Thomas, moved by the kindness and justice he has found, walks out and is killed by a police marksman.
