On a monsoon night, Sonia arrives at Deenapur railway station seeking a ticket to Bombay. She fears for her safety and is pursued because of the attache case full of jewelry. The station master delays issuing her ticket, causing her to miss the train. With nowhere to go, she decides to wait at the platform until morning while carrying the heavy jewelry.

Sonia deposits the attache case with Rohit and he locks it safely in his safe. He decides it would be safer for her to stay with him at his quarters for the night. He returns to the station to finish his duties, reassuring Sonia that she is safe. She explains she is fleeing people who want her jewelry, which she inherited from her mother.

While waiting at the station, Rohit's thoughts drift to Rashmi from his past. He recalls racing with her car on the road toward his uncle's wedding. When Rashmi's car runs out of petrol, he drains his own petrol into hers and tries to follow, but she drives off. He eventually gets a lift and, despite the rocky start, they meet again and fall in love.

Diwan Sardarilal introduces Rohit to Moti Babu and hires him as an assistant. Rohit quickly audits the company's records and discovers irregularities and a large sum missing. Rashmi warns Rohit that Moti Babu is not trustworthy, reinforcing his decision to investigate.

To sideline Rohit, Moti Babu, aided by Bahadur and Bijli, engineers a scheme that Rohit tried to rape Bijli and had an affair with Rashmi. The Panchayat punishes Rohit by beating him and orders him to leave the area. Rashmi witnesses part of the celebration and grows suspicious of Rohit's integrity.

Disgusted by the deceit and with no other option, Rashmi leaves Diwan's house and runs away with Rohit. They travel to Bombay and marry in a temple, seeking a fresh start away from the village's intrigues. Their union marks a new chapter in their lives.

Two inspectors, Tiwari and Sinha, arrive to question Rohit about the girl with the attache. Rohit suspects the truth but withholds Sonia's whereabouts. He later reads Sonia's mother's letter, which convinces him of Sonia's innocence and that she is being pursued for the jewelry.

In a memory sequence, Rohit and Rashmi sing 'Bheegi bheegi raaton mein' in the rain during their wedding. The scene underscores the deep bond they once shared and hints at the storms still surrounding their relationship. The rain serves as a metaphor for their romantic highs and ensuing turmoil.

Rashmi discovers talent beyond the home, painting and modeling under Chetan's influence. She becomes a top model and even wins a beauty pageant, craving fame and recognition. Rohit, while supportive, worries about the compromises of the modelling world and its effects on their life together.

Rashmi learns she is pregnant and contemplates continuing her career. A miscarriage occurs after she slips at Chetan's flat, which Rohit misattributes as an abortion. Their argument escalates and she leaves; Rohit resigns from Bombay Publicity in an attempt to repair things.

Unable to reconcile immediately, Rohit resigns and moves toward a quieter life. He receives a divorce notice and eventually seeks employment as a railway station master in Deenapur, hoping to be near Rashmi again. The path forward remains uncertain as past tensions linger.

Mr. Saxena visits Rohit and mentions Diwan's appearance in Karimganj, hinting at Rashmi's fragile situation. Rohit travels toward Rashmi, while Rashmi's father tries to humiliate him further. Rohit resolves to earn money and secure Rashmi's future, determined to win her back.

With little money, Rohit considers stealing the attache to fund his efforts to reunite with Rashmi. He is arrested for a murder he did not commit; Rashmi testifies that she saw the real murderers, Sinha and Tiwari, clearing Rohit. The truth comes out, and Rohit is acquitted, allowing him to be reunited with Rashmi.
