Abraxas, Jesse Ventura and Secundus, Sven-Ole Thorsen, are Finders from the planet Sargacia, a race that looks human but enjoys an extended lifespan. Each Finder carries an Answer Box, a multifunction device that serves as a communicator and scanner, capable of detecting objects from a distance when it picks up their vibration. In their pursuit of knowledge and power, Secundus hatches a dangerous plan: he longs to access a negative universe that he believes will grant him omnipotence and immortality, provided he can obtain the solution to the Anti-Life Equation. To this end, he travels to Earth and, in a shocking act of coercion, impregnates the first human woman he finds—Sonia Murray, Marjorie Bransfield—simply by laying his hand over her belly. The baby that results from this act is the Culmator, a prodigy whose very existence could unlock the equation. Minutes after Sonia discovers she is pregnant, her labor begins and she gives birth to Tommy Murray, Francis Mitchell.
Abraxas is ordered to kill Sonia to prevent the baby’s birth, but he cannot bring himself to do it, sparing both mother and child. Sonia’s parents react with fear and anger, casting her out of the family home and worrying less about the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the baby than about who the father might be. Five years pass, and Tommy, though speechless, displays uncanny abilities: when teased at school, he can force a bully to involuntarily wet his pants. Sonia tries to shield him, and a school principal’s call to check on Tommy becomes a point of tension, as Sonia refuses to acknowledge that her son is anything other than a troubled child.
Secundus eventually escapes Tyrannus 7 and returns to Earth, forcing Abraxas to pursue him with the same technology the Finders use for transport. The two path of pursuit cross, destroying their transport routes, and Secundus uses a fuse box at an automotive shop to recharge his Answer Box. When the shop owner confronts him, Secundus tests the Anti-Life Equation on the man, causing a cataclysmic explosion and reigniting his rampage. He roams the city, stealing cars and killing indiscriminately while scanning people for the one who holds the key to the equation—the Culmator.
Secundus locates Sonia’s house and, while Sonia and Tommy are out at a movie, he enters to test Tommy. Abraxas arrives just in time to clash with him again, and the two Finders fight fiercely. Abraxas is wounded: Secundus stabs him in the stomach and taunts him that the outcome will be the end of everything, but Abraxas refuses to yield. Secundus departs, leaving Abraxas to recover while Sonia returns home and discovers the injured ally. She and Abraxas decide to move to safety with Tommy, traveling toward a safe haven with a friend named Maxie.
At Maxie’s, Sonia and Abraxas begin to grow closer, united by their shared goal of protecting Tommy from exploitation by Secundus or anyone else who might seek the Culmator’s power. Meanwhile, Secundus infiltrates a local school and issues an ultimatum: kill the children one by one unless someone yields the Culmator. Abraxas, Sonia, and Tommy converge on the scene, and Abraxas engages Secundus in a final confrontation as Tommy attempts to flee. Secundus overpowers Abraxas and pursues Tommy into a garage, where the boy’s latent pyrokinetic powers erupt and set much of the space ablaze. Abraxas catches up and, despite Secundus’s claim that a Finder cannot kill another Finder under Sargacian law, he uses his Answer Box to scan Secundus for the Anti-Life Equation and disintegrates him, ending his threat once and for all.
With Secundus defeated, Finder Command expresses readiness for Abraxas to return to Sargacia for his next assignment. Yet he chooses to stay on Earth with Sonia and Tommy, committed to protecting the Culmator from anyone who might seek to weaponize him again. The trio remains united, facing an uncertain future but determined to safeguard a power that could alter the fate of their world and beyond.
