Years ago, Devan, a member of the Maanikesseri royal family, fell in love with Ganga, a dasi who serves the household. Their romance faces a brutal test when Devan’s father, Krishnan Thampuran—the stern head of the clan—learns of the couple and confronts them. Devan arrives with Ganga, hands joined, and confesses that they love each other and that she is pregnant. The revelation enrages Thampuran, who slaps Ganga and commands his henchmen to lock Devan away. As Thampuran violently confronts Ganga, she collapses against a pillar, losing consciousness, and Panicker, a loyal servant, desperately tries to wake her. When it becomes clear that she may be dead, Thampuran and Panicker decide to cremate her, only for Ganga to regain consciousness at the last moment, pleading for water. In a merciless twist, the pyre is set ablaze and Ganga is burned alive.
The tragedy does not end there. Ganga’s soul returns as a Yakshi, a malevolent spirit, and begins to torment the very family that once cast her aside. Devan, unable to endure the curse, takes his own life. Ganga then seizes control of Thampuran, exacting her vengeance by killing him. In fear of the cursed lineage, the Maanikesseri family seeks help from an exorcist, Meppaddan, who manages to imprison the spirit within a Banyan tree. Meppaddan warns that from now on, the male members of the family must live in celibacy, for if the spirit is released, nothing—not even Meppaddan himself—will be able to stop her.
Time passes and the family adheres to the ritual, but a new test of faith arises when Unnikuttan, a young member of the clan, befriends Maya, a woman he meets on a film shoot. Maya reciprocates his feelings, and the couple is promised marriage, though the family insists the union be kept in name only and that the couple refrain from consummating the bond. Maya agrees to the arrangement, and life seems to move forward—until a stranger named James disrupts their world by declaring that Maya is actually his missing fiancée, Daisy.
Panicker, ever watchful, senses a deeper danger, but the truth is far more complicated. Maya’s behaviour grows increasingly erratic, she seduces Unnikuttan and becomes pregnant, while tormenting the family with attacks and a growing sense of menace. The family seeks guidance from Meppaddan, along with Father Michael, to understand what is happening. The shocking revelation emerges: Maya is not Daisy but the same Ganga, now occupying another body. Daisy, in this body, has no memory of the possession or the horrific events that followed, blurting out only fragments of what she knows about her own family.
Meppaddan explains that Daisy’s body has become a vessel for Ganga’s power, a consequence of a fateful encounter when a college excursion brought Daisy to the Banyan tree where Ganga had once been imprisoned. Daisy’s abrupt transformation signals that Ganga’s hatred and thirst for vengeance remain potent and dangerous. An exorcism becomes necessary, but this time it is especially perilous because Ganga will not release her hold on Daisy without a drastic act of purification. Meppaddan participates in a harrowing exorcism, fighting a stubborn spirit that resists release. In a calculated and dangerous move, he chooses to burn the host—Daisy—alive, mimicking the fate that had once sealed Ganga’s life, while carefully ensuring Daisy’s life is preserved.
After the ritual, an unconscious Daisy is hospitalized. When she regains consciousness, she does not recall the possession or the terror that followed; she only remembers her own family. Unnikuttan’s heart breaks as he confronts the truth that James may have deceived them, and James himself reveals the full extent of what happened. Amid the turmoil, a deeper truth emerges: Daisy is going to be a mother, and her destiny begins to intertwine with Unnikuttan’s once more. James, having witnessed the pain of the past, helps Daisy understand the depth of Unnikuttan’s love and the sacrifice that has kept their bond alive.
In the end, Daisy comes to embrace a new identity—she is accepted as Maya within the Maanikesseri family, a name that symbolizes a fresh start and a reclaimed sense of belonging. The couple—Unnikuttan and Daisy—reunite, signifying healing after long years of fear and superstition. The narrative closes on a note of cautious hope: the family has endured the curse, and Daisy, now known as Maya in her new life, steps into motherhood with the enduring support of those who have stood by her side. The tale remains a tapestry of love tested by tragedy, the boundaries between worlds, and the possibility of redemption through faith, memory, and the unyielding endurance of family.
